Reds tidbits (2010 season)

An interesting and incredibly shocking Halladay factoid, he has the worst season for a pitcher in MLB history with at least 50 IP back in 1999...10.64 ERA in 19 games, 13 starts and 67.2 IP. :yow1:

And then look at the next year - he had a 3.16 ERA with a 1.16 WHIP.

Ironic report/preview I remember from ESPN before the game today, where the reporter ended the preview with a quote from Dusty talking about how anyone can be hit.

Found it in writing-

Q. Do you tell your club anything when they're at bat against Halladay about their approach to hitting against him? And two, one through eight in the lineups, both teams appear to be almost a mirror image of each other. Do you agree with that?

DUSTY BAKER: I agree with that second question. I mean, we both can hit. We both have relative speed. We both play good defense. And as far as what I tell my players, we haven't told them anything yet. We're about to have our hitters meetings, and, you know, I like to keep that a secret if you can, because Halladay might be listening on how we're going to try to approach it. This guy's a quality pitcher. Has been for a long, long time, a big acquisition. He knows it's not going to be easy, but anybody can have an off day, and anybody can be hit.

D'oh!

Somebody should strap a 15lb shakeweight to Dusty's forehead for about an hour and see if it helps.

The Reds are by no means a bad team, but there's no way this statement is supported by fact.

Votto and Ryan Howard are more or less a wash, but I'd much rather have a healthy Utley over a healthy Phillips, and the Reds have absolutely no one that matches well with Jimmy Rollins or Jayson Werth. Raul Ibanez and Bruce are a wash too.

Just saying.....that statement bothered me.

Okay, it's one damned game. If this team has proven anything this season, it is that the have zero effing memory. There were countless times (the meltdown in Atl, getting swept by the Cards, limping into the All-Star break, etc.) when they could have folded like a cheap fucking suit. I wouldn't write them off just yet. But it is a scary day in Redsland when you say to yourself, "Thank god we're facing Oswalt next."

Just got home.

No hits? That's all we got was zero goddamn hits?

Unreal.

Exact same thing I said....and I don't think you can say goddamn on the air

I'm not sure the National League All-Star team could have gotten a hit off of Roy Halladay today.

The biggest thing now is to have a short memory. Forget about this one and take the field on Friday. Its a new baseball game, with a pitcher that we've hit relatively well this season (if not in his career). And if we win it, then we take a 1-1 tie back to Cincy for two home games and home-field advantage.

After using every fucking cuss word known to man to describe the Reds performance, I took a step back and went over what I had witnessed. Of any game I have ever witnessed, I NEVER have seen a more dominating pitching performance than what I saw Doc do last night to our Reds. After the 6th inning, I had no doubt he was going to throw a no-hitter. Part of me wanted to witness it, the other part of me wanted to blow the damn TV up. As a baseball fan, his performance was truly a thing of baseball beauty. However, it absolutely sucks he did it against our Reds. That fuckin fuckface!!

The hardest hit ball all night was the line out to right by Travis Wood.

Halladay was just filthy.

That sucked. Having said that, hope is not lost and there are some positive things going forward.

First, our bullpen was great. One hit over 6.1 innings is incredible. If the pen keeps it going like that, this series is winnable. Second, we have our most consistent starter going tomorrow in Arroyo. Also, we face Oswalt and we roughed him up pretty good the last time we faced him. In fact, here is his line from 7/24; R Oswalt(L, 6-12) 5.0 9 6 6 1 3 2. Six runs on nine hits with two dingers and only three strikeouts. We have figured him out over the last year or so. Of course, if we lose either of the next two games, you can kiss this baby goodbye because there ain't no way we're beating Halladay. Dude looks like he's on a mission.

Don't lose hope Reds fans, we can win these next two games and force this thing to a fifth game.
