The MLB.com At Bat app for iPhone just dropped in price from $14.99 to $6.99 - it allows you to follow and listen to Reds games (or any other MLB game for that matter) on your phone. I've been waiting for the price drop - it's looking like that's how I'm going to have to catch the Reds (possible, probable) playoff games while I'm on my honeymoon.

Anyway, just a heads-up for anyone else who might be interested in that.

The Reds have extended their lead to 7 games, just added a 22-year-old 100 MPH-throwing LHP, and will be adding Yonder Alonso and Corky Miller's mustache to the mix tomorrow. Life is good.

Was Corky added to the 40 man? I can't remember if there is room or not. If not, someone needs to be dropped from the 40 man.

edit: never mind, Springer was put on the 60 DL (I thought he was already there). So there is an open spot.

The shit-eating grin on Jocketty's face during the postgame presser was priceless.

I get the feeling he wasn't smiling because of the way Chapman pitched. I get the feeling instead that he was smiling because he spent 1/4 of what the Cards spent on Matt Holliday to sign Chapman. I get the feeling he's smiling because the Reds were able to improve their pitching staff by reaching into AAA, while the Cards had to ship out one of the best hitters for a #4 starter who has gone 1-3. He's smiling because in the process of doing all of that, his team has taken a 7-game lead on the team that fired him.

And about Chapman... People talk about his velocity, but that slider of his is teh sex. Low-nineties, starts up and away, gets the batter out on his front foot while it's landing in the catchers mitt behind the back foot. The fastball is great, but it merely sets the table. Major leaguers will adjust to the velocity, but that slider that I saw tonight is unhittable.

And Jeff Suppan is starting for the Cards today. Talk about pouring a dump truck full of salt in a wound.

All that and the fact Corky Miller is back up and ready to unleash hell at the signal.

What really surprised me was how long his stride was. When he comes through on the mound his front foot lands just short of the grass. With his wing span he's already cut out nearly 8' of the distance between the mound and home plate before a batter even has a chance to see whether it's the 103mph cheese or the 89mph slider.

Even if the Reds hadn't had any infielders to catch those rollers, neither of the two pitches that were hit would have made it more than a foot beyond the dirt into the outfield.

In the MLB.com multimedia gallery I linked above there are also clips of Rolen's and Votto's 9th inning plays with Thom's call, and another highlight clip of Chapman's 8th with audio from both Marty and Bob Uecker.

Uecker's call when the bullpen gates open and the crowd roars as Chapman runs in: "Aaron Harang re-enters the game."
