Reds tidbits (2010 season)

I don't know what the deal is w/ the attendance.

I probably would've been there tonight (and maybe tomorrow or Wednesday) but this week is a bad time. I'm not sure if they want me there anyway. The Reds are 2-3 this year when I attend, and 1-3 at home. They've been pounded mercilessly in each of those three losses, too.

Well, Mondays are always bad, and kids are back in school. That is always one of the worst attendance games of the year (right up there with the 2nd game of the season). Yet I was expecting more like 20,000.

Yeah, but with the way Volquez has gotten lit up recently, especially the last start in San Francisco, who else do you run out there? LeCure?

At least Volquez didn't get lit up in AAA, and if he can get the ball over the plate he is good. Harang is bad over the plate, near the plate, well, anytime he is on the field.

Either way I pretty much chalk this one up as a loss.

Not only is the magic number awesome, but the Reds are tied with the Padres for the smallest one in MLB.

MLB Magic Numbers - MLB Baseball Team Standings

All those who predicted at the beginning of the season the Reds/Padres would be battling for home-field advantage throughout the entire playoffs, including the World Series, raise your hands.

In other news, even the Cardinals official team site/bloggers/tweeters have thrown in the towel on the season.

From Sam LeCure last night (mrLeCure):

ATTN REDS FANS! Your hometown boys are in first place! Gets your butts in those seats and cheer us on to the playoffs!!
about 12 hours ago via Twitter for iPhone

No kidding. First day of school or not < 15,000 is pretty sad.

...As somebody said on RedsZone, two shits is pretty impressive. Many Cards fans have been questioning whether they could even give one.

Saw this on ESPN today, re: questioning the legitimacy of the Louisville radar guns ...

MLB Rumors - MLB Trade Rumors, Free Agency Rumors and More - Rumor Central - ESPN

Rumor Central asked around Friday night to try and find a talent evaluator who was in attendance and caught up with an American League club's pro scout who was catching Chapman for the first time.

"That's a heck of a first impression," the scout said. "I had him with three 103s and a 104, and I'd never seen anything above the 100 I got from (Washington's Stephen) Strasburg last spring and the 101 from (Detroit's Joel) Zumaya earlier this year. It's an amazing feat, I had to look around and see if (my gun) was off for that one."

Been looking forward to this night all season. I cant wait to see Fielder vs Chapman late in this game.

On Harang, I dont know why but I have a feeling that he goes 5 solid innings tonight, having a little trouble in the 6th. 5.6 IP 2 ER, 5 K's 2 BB tonight is what I'm looking for. Someone gets us into the 7th and then we see Chapman.

Oh yeah, Reds win 6-3 tonight. I dont see Carpenter losing tonight though so still 6 games up. V-bets?

Carpenter has become quite hittable of late while Wandy Rodriguez has been lights out. Rodriguez just cannot get any run support from the Astros lineup, and the Stros' pen is a mess. Since Wandy beat the Reds at the end of July, his earned runs by game (including that night): 0, 0, 1, 1, 1, 2, 1. Of those seven games, he's gone to the seventh inning or later five times. He is 3-1 with 3 ND. The Astros are 3-4 in those starts.

If Carpenter is on form tonight, this game could take less than two hours to play and end 1-0 either way.

As for Harang ... I'm not concerned with giving Harang a start in the general sense. I am not thrilled that he's getting that start versus Hart/Braun/Fielder/etc in GABP however.

So, whats the bet?

How about a $50 BP donation from the loser?

I say Carpenter and the Cardinals get the win tonight, and its Over 6 runs in the game. Of course that would be a parlay and even harder to hit, but I'm willing to bet on either factor.
