Reds tidbits (2010 season)

We got to our bleacher seats just as the bullpen was running out there. Wish I could have seen more, but I love me a good brawl and it looked pretty quality on sportscenter. I have no issue with Phillips talking ish (best 2nd baseman in the league, now this), but he really needs to start backing it up right afterward. 5-5 with a homer or two to get us the division lead back tomorrow will satisfy me..

If only for the sole purpose of having the biggest, baddest guys in the fight, the Reds could have used Adam Dunn and Wily Mo Pena during that brawl. Having stood next to Adam Dunn before, he is one of the biggest humans I have seen in my life. Hoping for the Reds to pull one out tomorrow.

I remember the Ray Knight vs Eric Davis fight and how many guys headed for the dugout when Dave Parker started removing people from the pile. Nobody wanted any part of that big s.o.b.

Nah, in that case you want Nolan Ryan and Mo Vaughn.

I'll pass. He wouldn't show enough hustle getting to the fight and most of the punches he would throw would miss by a mile.

The one guy he DID happen to hit would be in some serious pain.

I would say that was the best baseball fight I ever saw. The Reds and the Mets hated each other back then.

It was definitely a top fiver. It was not your typical baseball circle jerk. Guys were actually trying to do damage and that's what made all the early exits once Parker got involved so funny-at least to me. The early 80's (forget exactly) fight with the Cubs where Soto tried to kill Zimmer with a ball from about 2 ft away was pretty nasty.

One benefit of modern technology for players I have noticed, back then we had D cell batteries in the electronics we could bring into the park, now they just have these little watch batteries or AA. Sometimes smaller, more efficient electronics aren't better.

its his ritual, does it with every catcher

Maybe so, but I could see a catcher taking offense to it if a day earlier Phillips was spouting off about how the Cardinals (Molina, of course being one of them) were a bunch of complainers and [censored] and how Phillips hates them. Phillips has no right to touch anybody with his bat, and saying "it's his ritual" is no defense. I think it's pretty tough to defend Phillips under the circumstances.
