Nice to see George Grande's favorite human show up and stick the dagger in this teams heart. 3-2 loss to the fucking Brewers after Edmonds hits a HR in the bottom of the 8th.

Ugh.

if this team doesnt go after a bat soon I have no hope for this team

Stubbs and OC are black holes of suck

Phillips and Bruce are in god awful slumps

Johnny Gomes is Johhny Gomes and it 'aint May anymore

So that leaves Votto, Rolen and Rolens iffy 35 year old back to carry the offense while BP and JB try to unfuck themselves.

All that to say, yeah we need a bat and we need it yesterday.

My trade idea is to Toronto for Downs and Bautista. Both have been rumored available and while I don't think Bautista can keep up his current pace who gives a fuck. He's better then Gomes and he can play 3B to rest Rolen.

EDIT
here's another thought, go get Werth as a rental from Philly. Stick him in LF and let Gomes and The Mailroom Clerk platoon in RF.
It doesn't solve the rampant fucktardness issue in center but it adds another quality MLB bat to a lineup that desperately needs one.

Fucking BP..... donkey base running (coach Saunders ref Dublin Coffman) cost a run

I don't mind that play. It's not as if Phillips was lollygagging the turn around first like normal, and it took two perfect throws to get him in a bang-bang play at third.

So for the extra tenth of a percent, or whatever it is, bump in scoring you get from being on third with 0 out vs 2nd with 0 out you risk an out and having no one on base which reduces your chance of scoring drastically.

It was a stupid move. The reward isn't anywhere near worth the risk but I would expect Phillips, or his manager, to ever think like that.

They just managed to have 4 hits and a wild pitch in an inning and only get 2 fucking runs. Unreal.

Expected runs actually jumps from 1.054 runs to 1.285. I had to look it up and I am actually surprised it's that high. Of course if you get thrown out expected runs drop to .239.

and for your random math of the day, you need to be safe 78% of the time to equal out the numbers. In other words, you better be damn sure you can make it to third. That also holds true for stealing third with 0 outs. If you have a guy that is successful stealing third more than 78% of the time, you send him (which is only the most elite base stealers).

I've seen that stat numerous times, but I can't bring myself to agree with its implications because I know there are more ways to score from third than there are from second (balk, wild pitch/passed ball, sac fly, infield base hit, infield error or a sharp single where you wouldn't be able to score from second).

And if this baseball team is operating like it SHOULD, then let's place blame (if one is so inclined) where it belongs. Dusty isn't making that call and Phillips should be paying attention to the third base coach, so let's blame that guy.

I don't think that a third base coach's decisions in instances like these should be driven primarily by stats. I want him to make decisions based on the context of the play that is occurring. In this case, the Reds had one of their faster runners out there and it needed two perfect throws toward 3rd from the furthest point on the field to barely get him. Even if you concede that they were playing for a small reward, in my mind it was also a low-risk decision. It just didn't work out like it would in most cases.

Run that same play over again, and I think Phillips is safe 9/10 times.

The thing that pissed me off the most about that inning (and did as much if not more to kill momentum) was Gomes hacking at the first pitch after the first four guys in front of him got hits.
