Reds Tidbits (2009 season)

Something is definitly in the air (besides the smell of half price hot dogs).

The Pirates just released Chris Snelling. He's the definition of punch and judy but he can get on base, play CF and damn sure won't cost 6.5M over 2 years. Of course the same could be said about Dickerson and we see how that worked out for him.

Anyway, all this movement of non hitters is a sign. Of what I'm not sure.

Speaking of trading bullpen guys:

?If we?re assuming that everybody?s healthy from here on out, I would say that our top priority would be a bullpen piece, especially somebody with veteran stature. I think that would be No. 1. If we can find a starter that?s obviously better than who we have starting now, that would be No. 2. The number of names that have been tossed around out there that we?ve made contact with clubs that would definitively make our starting rotation better?it?s a very, very short list. It might be a longer list in the bullpen. We?re concentrating on both, and hopefully will be able to do one if not both between now and July 31.?

After the moves I saw today I have legitimate hope Tavaras can be moved. If we get a human with a pulse in return then thats ok.

Looking around the league at contenders who have a 4th or 5th starter worse than Arroyo its pretty damn bleak. Those who are worse aren't anywhere near his price tag.

The Phillies need SP in the worst way, just an average ERA innings eater and they'll be ok with that offense. They have Moyer who is arguably worse than Arroyo but at half the freakin price so they'll say "fuck you very much" I'm sure.

I think we are stuck with this no talent ass clown (his pitching sucks too) for the duration.

Pretty well known Royals blogger on the Yuniesky Betancourt trade. It long but worth the read. I'd say Reds fans can relate with him a lot more than he thinks.

Link

Walt, call the Royals right now. If Freel is the best they can do in CF have we got a deal for them.

Nope.

My fiancee asked me last night if the Reds were back in town this weekend. I answered, "God, I hope not."

I did just see on Twitter that Jay Bruce broke his wrist. His transformation into the next Austin Kearns continues...

Bruce went down to his knees running forward to try and grab a sinking liner, bent his wrist backwards when the glove got caught in the turf. It wasn't pretty. As if the live shot wasn't grotesque enough, the guys on FSN just made it their 6th inning Coors Light Freeze Frame, so everyone could get a good long look at his wrist bending ways it was never intended.
