Reds Tidbits (2009 season)

Arroyo had another good outing again today. The Cubs lineup is nothing to sneeze at at all and he held them in check. He's a great 2 out of 3 pitcher. Its that 3rd start that makes you want to vomit. But...

I'm starting to think that Micah Owings could be a middle relief pitcher extraordinare. I'm not sure he can be a really good starting pitcher but he could get lots of innings in middle/long relief and get his bat in the lineup more often. I'd totally be for signing him long term in just this regard only. If he could develop into a Scott Sullivan type of innings eater and get 10-15 HR's per year seeing more playing time, I'd do cartwheels.

.....the rest of the Arroyo outing left up to the bully which was great til they drove out the Stinkin Lincoln again and he burns down the mound in the 14th. The Reds offense just cannot support a 5 or 6 run game at the moment.

Anyone know what happened to JB today? I see he left early.

Jesus he's still pitching and now the bases are loaded again. From 3-3 to 6-3 in a blink. Nice line: 1IP, 4H, 2BB, 3ER on 27 pitches. There's got to be a young reliever in AAA dying to get this guys spot.

I appreciated the part where Marty and Thom were talking about Lincoln still being around because he's out of options, and the Reds don't want to lose him.

Wouldn't that be the [censored]ing point?

Besides, they're assuming another team would actually claim him.

The Reds would do just as good to bring back that guy the plucked out of the drywall business in Hamilton a few years ago.

Oh yeah - I didn't tune in to the game until the 12th inning. I noticed Bruce wasn't in the game and not available on the bench. I assume that the Reds have a pretty dumb reason for subbing for their most dangerous hitter in a close divisional game, right?

When you find yourself saying "Marty and Thom were talking and..." you are pretty much guaranteed to have stupidity to discuss.

Its as predictible as saying "Charlie Weis walked into an all you can eat buffet and..."

Bruce was given the day off, so the starting OF was Gomes, Dickerson, Nix. Bruce was used as a PH for Arroyo in the 8th.

When Lincoln came in, I was ready to punt the broadcast. When Soriano jacked the first pitch, I said, "This one's over." My wife says, "But the Reds still get to bat!" to which I shot back, "That's not the only run this guy is going to give up."

Can't blame Lincoln though. 16 LOB ... The Reds deserved to lose after not being able to get a run in with a runner on third and one out for four innings in a row. :smash:

- Where have you gone, Joey Votto, Reds Nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
- A whoo hoo fucking hoo.

i had the misfortune of listening to marty and thom on XM while i was running around during errands. talk about a couple of negative assholes. who the fuck ends an inning with "and time after time after time the Reds fail to produce when it matters." I wanted to kill the little shit. I bet the Cubs announcers are nicer to the Reds than the Reds announcers.

It is surprising Thom is so cynical and biting, because you'd figure he'd be a better person after his 10 minutes with Tim Tebow.

I felt the same damn way, and was saying the same damn thing, I just didn't have a radio audience to share my thoughts with... what's wrong with being pissed about the way that game shook out yesterday? Frustrating as all hell..

We get that on the TV version. George Grande and Chris Welsh have everything so damn sugarcoated my stomach gets upset at times. Turrble.
Pick your poison. I will say, though, after watching other baseball telecasts on other networks, the Reds/FSN could do a lot worse than Grande, Welsh, Thom, Cowboy, Jim Day, and Pic for their TV crews.

Cleveland games IMHO are damn near unwatchable. Pittsburgh's announcers are even worse.

The only guy I'd really like to listen to outside of the crew that works Reds games is probably Mark Grace.

There's gotta be a reason Grande was the first anchor on Sportscenter, and then ended up with the Reds.. not sure who that indictment is on, however... moving on..

George won't even say the word "damn". It's the actual name, dude..

"Stay tuned for the Best Sports Show Period..".. right after Jim Day is done wasting everyone's time being un-funny, even if that is his only job.. the fact that the Reds start losing it this time of year isn't enough to make me tune out completely, it's the combo of these ass-clowns that clinches it for me...big HOWEVER, not having the Arroyo commercials is nice...

so maybe things are getting better after all

Meanwhile, on the radio side you have Marty referring to Scott Boros as "The Great Satan." George brings balance to the Force in the Reds' universe.
