Reds Tidbits (2009 season)

Bruce, his major league leading 6th outfield assist

I love the aggressive baserunning and patient hitting approach this team has showed over the past two weeks. Everyone is looking to take extra bases when the defense is napping, including the pitchers, and the word should be out by now to other teams not to try and run on Cincinnati's outfield, especially Bruce.

I have no idea what the hell Eric Byrnes was doing last night, or St. Louis's defense in the past series, but it's real nice watching the Reds on TV and laughing at the other teams' miscues for once.

The Reds are finally on the positive side of the ledger in RS/RA differential for the first time all season, possess the third best record in the NL, and the best road record in all of MLB.

Very happy to see them get this road trip off on the right foot. Hopefully they maintain it and come back no worse than 4-2.

Since the 14 inning loss to the Marlins, the Reds' offense has scored 7, 3, 6, 6, 8, 7, and 13 runs. I think Rosales has earned his stay. Time to pack your bags Skippy Chippy.

Err... Zippy Chippy, I mean. When EE comes off the DL, Darnell McDonald is probably the odd man out.

Jim Day did bring up a good point on Reds Live last night. One of these ABs a pitcher is going to drill him in the head for thinking his home run sprint is an attempt to show up a pitcher.

Who the fuck is Darnell McDonald?

Gomes should definitely be up. Even w/ Nix taking control of the LF spot, the team could use a RH with some pop on the bench.

I agree. I wouldnt mind seeing a platoon of Nix/Gomes with Nix getting a majority of the at bats. I say they send McDonald to AAA, but I also think it might do some good to send Dickerson down also and let him play everyday. Nix and Dickerson are about the same age, and Nix has more major league experience. Even if Dusty thinks that Dickerson is the outfielder with more "upside", sitting on the bench isnt necessarily going to help him get out of his slump.

By "pop" are you referring to Gomes ability to hit long fly balls, or his propensity to incite bench clearing brawls?

Thom mentioned on the broadcast last night that Phillips was the most fined player on the team last year. Anybody have any articles/info on how much the final tab was? Because it's paying off this year. If he goes 1st to 3rd on a bloop single in front of Upton tomorrow night he'll have the trifecta in Arizona.
