Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

Outstanding.

Harang gets the sweep tomorrow even if he doesnt get 9 runs of support.

Lets go Redlegs, we could be over .500 by June 1st boys, and we'll need it with that hellish schedule before the All-Star break.

June is going to be a real test for this team, if they are still in it after June we have something here...If not, well then we don't, we rid some of the guys and bring up the young talent...

Either way I would like to see guys like Maloney, Thompson, Bailey, Rosales, get a little time up here in September to see where they are at, if not before then...Many might be scratching their head at Rosales, but I still think he is a very solid hitter, just having a very bad first couple of months...He looked good in spring training...

BTW Jax it is Da Boss, not the boss...:)

Despite their typical choke job on the left coast, this team is 10-5 in their last 15. Not bad. If they could find a warm body to replace Belisle in the rotation, I'd get a little excited.

Homer Bailey cannot be worse than Belisle. He has not been great in AAA, but I don't see him being worse than Belisle. Heck, I cannot be worse than Belisle.

Almost everybody I know back home speaks that way.

At least I didn't say "simular" like Jeff Brantley did a moment ago. :tongue2:

Not to mention "The Reds finally have a minor league system with prospects by which to choose from." His masterization of Engrish is astonishing. :tic:

Farney makes a tumbling catch in right-center, Bruce wisely stays the eff away from him.

Whether anyone can say this two or three years from now is the million dollar question.

Kudos to Dan O'Brien for at least building that on a shoestring budget after Bowden. Problem is, if you listen to Cards fans, the knock on Jocketty was his piss-poor management of the farm system. Time will tell.

Amazing what happens when you add two guys that can actually hit a left handed pitcher to the lineup!

It's nice seeing Hamilton tearing it up in Texas, and if Volquez winds up being Little Pedro, you make that trade 100 times out of 100. But dammit, we traded the wrong outfielder. :( Imagine this team with Dunn, Bruce, and Hamilton!

Good article on SI this week about Hamilton -- though its hinted in there that Brandon Phillips may be a bit too selfish for the teams' good. Wonder if there's any fire there? BP's my whipping boy of the week right now.

Looks like he's been trying to hit the ball 500 feet on every cut since the road trip. Dude. Take a pitch!!!

It's nice to have a minor leauge system that is producing some talent, I think the Reds could be a contender for a playoff spot.

Does anyone know anything about Adkins down AAA, looks like his numbers are decent.

Would be great to get someone to replace Fogg.

Adkins is old...

I think that the next in line in terms of young guys would be Roenicke, but he is still in AA working on command, but he has a high 90's fastball...

The names ready for callup this season are maloney and Baily...possibly Thompson. All are starters.

The thing to watch is the two NY teams, both are in panic mode and both need pitching. I've wanted to trade Arroyo to NY since early 2006 when his value was at its peak and they were shopping, I hope the Reds don't pass on a second chance.

In house replacements are availible for BA, get the two monsters in a bidding war and take your pound of flesh Walt.

Would be great to pull a young CF with range, with a high OBP as well...Or a young SS with the same tools, or a young C that has great defense and a little bit of pop in his bat...

I still think that there are a couple relievers that could help, Pelland, McBeth(hurt?), Roenicke...

Plus Bronson, has actually looked good his last few starts. No better time then now to move him.

He's 30 now and I know he's not a youngster. Has he improved recently enough to justify being called up? I know he's not a long term answer but regardless of his age, we have room in the pen for good arms. Maybe they'll give him a look in September.

yes, after CC Sabathia (they'll have to move him) he would probably be the second best starter availible this year off the top of my head.

Arroyo has value, he eats inning, can pitch on 3 days rest and give you better than average production. I'm not saying trade him and punt '08, just that he is really just a swing man/5th starter. We can get similar production in house for less money and get prospects in return....thats how you sustain a prodcutive farm system.

There are other guys to give looks to...No reason to go with Adkins...Go with younger arms...We are a team build more for the future, no really now...
