Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

Too much to say after this one but here's a couple:

-Reds are the worst team in the NL. Period.

-Bako has come back down to earth with a vengence

-Freel is the worst baserunner in MLB history. I think he's honestly a brain cell or two away from being declared legally retarded.

-C Patterson avoids going 0-9 by getting a sac bunt down.

-Sure am glad they got Dunn out of there for a defensive replacement.

-David Ross sucks donkey dick.

-At first I thought Votto was a decent defensive 1B, I no longer feel this way. Yet another sub par defensive player we have to deal with.

I fuckin' hate it when they pull the bullshit, of winning some games in a row and pulling you back in only to blow that by only winning 2 out of their next 7...

I knew not to get to excited, and it was Jax of all people that started talking .500 ball that got me excited...

It is turning into a fuckin' joke...Every fuckin' manager in the league has to laugh everytime they hear that Corey "Mr. OBP" Patterson is leading off for us...

First off Dusty is trying, he is a solid manager, but the problem there is the talent isnt there for his non outside box thinking of 1-CF, 2-SS...Sometimes you have to get away from that...He does a good job of managing guys, motivating them etc...I really like what he has done in terms of days off with guys, and what not...

I mean at some point tho these guys don't need someone to hold their fuckin' hand...At some point EE needs to realize that Freel is stealing and not pop that bunt up...If a hit and run was actually called shame on the stupid fuck that put the play on...Freel had 2nd easily to get a runner to second...And Shame on fucking the fucksticks in the booth for saying EE should bunt...Have they ever seen him bunt???

What a huge dissapointment...I still didn't see the need to waste Bray in the 11th when we did...It was Fogg or nothing there IMO...Now we wasted Harang and Volquez and will probably have to move them back, or put some stiff in their place...Our two best pitchers...Just ride the game out with Fogg...We lost 1 game today to fuck around and lose two more due to starting pitching...

Also Can someone let Griffey hit his damn homeruns so we can send him packing and bring up the fucking boss...The kid just continues to pound AAA pitching and it is time...

Also Bailey has had enough in AAA...Yeah his numbers aren't great, but I don't think that is because guys are really hitting him, I think it is because he knows that he is better than the stiffs we keep running out there...

That is enough for now...

BTW Jax the only thing I don't agree with your post is Votto at first...He is only 24? and I think he is doing an above average job...

I'm not bashing him, he just had a bad week with the leather. Much like EE with a better bat I think he'll be fine. I'm just saying I see where he got the rep as a bad defensive player, I hadn't seen it all year really up to this point.

BTW....lots of buzz from some insiders over at RZ that major organizational shakeups will be going down on Monday. Mostly minor league pitchers on the move (promotions) but this should be the day the Boss arrives.

Let us hope his arrival coincides with the departure of Patterson who, btw, has now lowered his OBP to .248.

Thats right...a .248 On Base Percentage. When Adam Dunns batting average is higher than your goddamn OBP its time to call it a day.

Now hear this;

The Boss will be in town starting 5/27/08, I say again the Boss is coming to town on Tuesday 5/27/08.

That is all.

P.S. John Fay thinks the corresponding move is the departure of Cory F Patterson but thats not official yet.

The Official Site of The Cincinnati Reds: News: Reds set to bring up prospect Bruce

CINCINNATI -- The time is finally now for Jay Bruce. Bruce, considered the consensus top prospect in all of professional baseball, will be promoted to the Reds from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday and make his Major League debut in Cincinnati against the Pirates.

That is the best fuckin' birthday present I could of asked for...

Forget the Ipod or Mario Kart...

The BOSS IS COMING TO CINCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy fuckin' birthday to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a note on the comment you made above Jax...I thought you were knocking the defense, just saying why the comments were made...I think at times he will show some bad D, but overall he has done pretty good and saved some bad plays, and had the web gem the other night...

Hatteberg is gone to make room for Bruce. I don't really like it, but I understand why. If the Reds had a manager that could be trusted to use a guy like Patterson properly, I'd be OK with him still being on the roster. He could be valuable as a pinch runner or defensive replacement. I get the feeling we'll still be seeing him at the top of the lineup card at least 4 days a week.

I can't believe the Reds couldn't get some sort of return for Hatteberg by now. Hopefully they can work out a trade for some minor league filler in the next few days - especially since his option was picked up in the offseason for the purpose of being able to trade him.

I'm strongly considering going to the game tonight. I have the night off and a half-price UDF coupon code. The radar is looking ominous, but I think it'll blow over before the game or shortly after the scheduled start time.

Should be interesting to see how dusty puts the lineup together tonight...

Janish, Votto, Bruce, Dunn, EE, Griffey, Phillips, catcher, pitcher...

Can you imagine having to go through Votto, Bruce, Dunn, EE, Griffey, Phillips...that would be terrifying for any pitcher...

Yeah it kinda sucks having Janish at the top, but we lack a true leadoff guy and If Janish could work on getting his OBP up then he would be solid there...

Tonight's lineup:

Jerry Hairston Jr. ss
Jay Bruce cf
Ken Griffey Jr. rf
Brandon Phillips 2b
Adam Dunn lf
Edwin Encarnacion 3b
Joey Votto 1b
Paul Bako c
John Cueto p
v. RH Ian Snell

Bruce is the best leadoff man this team has. Apparently Dusty values the ability to make outs over a player's centerfieldedness when choosing a leadoff hitter.

Here's what I'd do if I had to use these nine players:
  1. Bruce - CF
  2. Votto - 1B
  3. Dunn - LF
  4. Phillips - 2B
  5. Encarnacion - 3B
  6. Griffey - RF
  7. Hairston - SS
  8. Bako - C
  9. Cueto - P

Yikes! Looking at the animated loop, it looks like it's moving very slowly and downtown is in line to get the worst of it and for the longest possible duration.

I'm keeping an eye on it, but I may just be content to watch Jay Bruce and those other guys here at home - where the beer is already paid for. :tongue2:

The thing is in my opinion is that Jay Bruce is our best hitter, or will be...You don't lead him off because that takes away from his ability to knock in runs...You want a guy with a high OBP that isn't a great slugger, will work a walk, get on base and hopefully has a little speed to make something happen...

Hairston isn't a great option, but he is the best if we are going witht he lineup we are going with...His OBP is 338 which puts him 8th on the team...

Maybe not Votto in the two hole, but i don't wan't Dunn or Bruce there because they need to take advantage of slugging and also their OBP...that is why Dunn or Bruce is your 3 hole hitter...That was Griffey back in the day but his day has passed him by...I would put Phillips in the 2 hole against lefties, but against righties i would put him at 7...EE has struggled lately, but I put him in the 6 hole and keep him there...

I go with 4 lefties Votto, Dunn/Bruce, Griffey in the 2-5 spots...The Dunn, Votto, and Bruce look to be the top 3 OBP guys against righties, then you got Griff, EE, Phillips, catcher Pitcher...

IMO you gotta move Phillips from 2 to 7 as crazy as his splits are...You take advantage against lefties getting him as many at bats as possible and not against righties...You don't platoon him with someone else because he hits righties ok, and is a gold glove caliber second baseman...

There is no way you can lead off patterson, it is just laughable...hairston isn't a bad option when he is in there, because he isn't really an rbi guy you put down in the lineup..
