I see Kent Mercker is here to fill the role formerly occupied by Victor Santos - a walking white flag coming out of the bullpen.

I'll up you one

I was at last night's game. Very sweet. Edwin's HR landed a couple of rows behind us. I have a couple of bruises and scrapes from diving for it... my brother-in-law got it... the bastard. Nah, I was happy for him, the place he worked closed it's doors a couple of weeks ago, so he needed a little boost.

Off to a fast start today, already up 2-0.

9 up, 9 down. 5 K's. The other 4 outs were routine, no hard hit balls that I can tell. 37 pitches, 28 strikes.

Keppinger with a solo homer in the bottom of the 2nd. Reds up 3-0 batting in the bottom of the third.

I was at the game as well.

A few observations:

1) Announced attendance was 14,000, I'd say at best, there was 8-9000.

2) Adam Dunn is a dog. No hustle or urgency in his play whatsoever.

3) Coffey picked up where he finished last year, terrible. That play at home where Bako blocked the plate and Coffey ended up with the ball after Griffey's throw got by Bako had me screaming at Coffey to get his head out of his rear.

He could have tagged the runner out b/c he never touched home plate.

4) Griffey never takes his hands off his knees during pitches when in RF.

Not ready for any balls that come his way.

5) Some people are saying the Reds could contend in the Central, I just don't see it. When Bronson Arroyo is your #2, you're in trouble.

12 up, 12 down. Up to 7 K's. Hudson ended the 4th with a flyout to the wall in left.

Gave up a leadoff home run to Justin Upon in the sixth. Struck out 2 of the next 3. 6 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 10 K.
