Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

Memo to Mr. Grande: They're the Pittsburgh Pirates, not the Pittsburgh Buccos. Please, just say Pirates one time for me, George. I can't listen to this anymore, especially two games in 24-hours.

:smash:
Actually, annoying as that seems, the local Pittsburgh media would often refer to the Pirate as the Bucs, or Buccos (Buccaneers being Pirates of one stripe or another). First such attribution per Yahoo Answers was Bob Prince, announcer for the Pirates.

The Pirates official site even keeps a "Buc's notes" page detailing their latest news - which should soon reflect a 7-5 win for the Reds.

Another W. Dunn's homer was hilarious. Harang didn't have a curve today, think it was just too damned cold. I'll take it. 4-1 baby!

Bullpen was great again. Hope they can keep it up.

What happened with Dunn's homer?

Nady caught it at the warning track and couldn't close his glove, it skipped out and into the first row. The "official" measurement on the homer was 369-feet. Nady was standing in front of the 370 sign at the wall when he botched it.

There was also a botched fly, some missed throws, and a liner that gave the Reds a free double. Incredibly bad defense on Pitt's part all around, even worse than last night despite not be credited with any errors. They giftwrapped this one to the Reds.

EDIT: But it makes up for the horrible strike zone Harang had to deal with the first three innings.

I know, I'm referring more to the fact that Grande virtually never says Pirates. If he changed it up every once in awhile it wouldn't be so grating, but he emphasizes the 'O' in Buccos, like he's pronouncing Cheerios or Spaghetti-Os or something, and it's incredibly annoying by the third game of the series.

Didn't get any of that following the Yahoo! tracker.

Bullpen showed up big again today. Edwin I think though gets the player of the game. He stepped up huge.
Agree on EE. Great game at the plate and behind the bag today. He should make Web Gems tonight.

I think Conine loves GABP, he missed another huge HR that would've blown the game open by just a few feet.

Oh yeah, Dunn knew he hit a pop-up and the wind just took it and took it, then Nady knocked it over the wall. Dunn was laughing all the way back to the dugout. It wasn't quite a Jose Canseco moment, but it was close.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -After watching a teammate flirt with perfection the previous night, Carlos Zambrano figured facing Milwaukee was just what he needed.

Zambrano re-established himself as the Chicago Cubs ' king of the road on Saturday, allowing three runs and five hits in seven innings and hitting an RBI single in a 6-3 victory over the Brewers.

Zambrano, who gave up five runs in five innings and took the loss at Cincinnati on opening day, said matter-of-factly that he considers the Reds a much tougher out than the Brewers.

''I don't say that the Milwaukee Brewers are nothing, but I think the offense of the Cincinnati Reds (is) better,'' Zambrano said. ''There's no making mistakes when pitching against Cincinnati. When you make a mistake against them, you pay for it. When you make a mistake against Milwaukee, sometimes they miss it and that's good.''

Best compliment of the reds I've heard from anyone in baseball in a long time.

Well, consider the source. I'm surprised he doesn't talk to the baseball when he's on the mound. But, hey, I'm sure they'll take it.

BTW, for those that didn't see today's game, the wind was brutal which contributed to the Buc-Os (just for Dryden) fielding issues.

Almost forgot, it was good to see Coutlangus get a chance to pitch before they send him down. Uncle Milty goes tomorrow. At least the Reds won the first 2 games of the series.

I haven't seen anything official, but I'm assuming this is the move. I don't think they have been able to find any takers for Corpse-ier.

The real bitch of it is going to be when Bray comes back soon. Then what do you do? We don't need 4 lefties in the pen.

Kriv has got to move/DFA Cormier and Milton. They have absolutely zero value so the trade part is next to impossible leaving only the DFA route. Cut your losses and improve the team through addition by subtraction.
