actually we do two trees... a 7 footer for front window... then the monster in the family room... We have a family rule on the monster... not allowed to have two of any ornament... many are electronic... lots of those powered Coke ornaments... the one in the front is part of the 'exterior' decorations .. wife goes bonkers on decorations... for every holiday...

BuckinMich.. I need to send my wife with you.. on the endless search for the perfect tree... obviously the choices for a 17 footer is narrow... but she'll spend forever looking for the perfect smaller one... plus we can only get certain kinds because of her and the boys allergies...

Send her on over as long as she only likes blue spruces.

My wife's good friend's mom goes nutty with Christmas trees. She actually has two trees in her house decorated solely with collegiate ornaments. One tree is where she went to school and the other is where her kids went. Her husband's school is so small they don't have many ornaments so he gets this little plant in the house with like 4 ornaments on it.

My wife wants a tree on each floor. So far I have won that battle that we have one tree in the house.

not only very real... but usually around 16-17 ft... one year, when standing that bugger up.. it got away from me and my son... huge gash in the wall... got guide wire anchors up there now...

we learned to put the Angel topper on.. BEFORE we erect it... otherwise, it gets comical trying to stand on the top of the window molding.. with somebody on top of a ladder pushing on your ass so you don't fall...

Merry Christmas

I would have thought having it erect before putting the angel on top was the way to go...

ceiling is only 18 foot so you don't have clearance to set the angel on as you normally would... plus, often, you can't reach the top... even when you're on top of the ladder... you're too far out and reaching in... 17 foot tree may have a bottom that stretches out 8 feet... I've come too close too often with being on 'funniest videos' trying to do the topper.. I just knew I was gonna do the dive into the tree and topple it over me... that's how I found out that little half inch window molding can be a savior

Grinch at home since work is decorated, and that's where I live anyway. Varies at Mom and Dad's, so I'll see when I arrive... that's when Christmas begins. :)

If I ever celebrate Christmas at my own place, it will DEFINITELY be with a real tree.

We always used to have a real tree, big one around 9 foot if I could get that.

Then pets, kids and a disastrous incident with cats chasing lovebirds that had escaped their cage during cleaning (think the squirrel scene in National Lampoon's Xmas Vacation but with the cat jumping from branch to branch knocking down all kinds of stuff). Part of the tree falls toward the fireplace - which was when the kids decided it was wisest to corral the cat. Pretty touch and go, though all ended up safe (family, tree, cat and birds all). Then we decided that something less flammable and unstable would be a good choice.

So fake, stable and re-usable became the order of the day.

Grinch at home, I just don't have the time or money right now.

gf has always done a real tree until this year when she decided that she wanted to do a fake tree.

My parents have always had a fake tree, just allot less work
