I'm over the Nat champ Game and afterward the players put up a good front.When the 10 yr anniv. comes around and the players get together they will spend more time talking about that loss then the wins. I remember Rex saying when the 68 team got together they talked more about the 69 Mich loss than the National Champ season. I wish he could have conveyed that story to the team around Dec. 15th.

Taosman brought out a good point. USC may have gone deep against our secondary that has trouble when playing man on man, if we had played them in the N/C. REally i think that Tressel knew this was one of our weaknesses and that was why we were playing Zone against Florida.

But then some adjustments were made in the middle of the fourth quarter and only 7 points were scored but maybe it was too late anyway.

I also felt alittle let down by the coaching staff in not giving alot of people a solid explanation for the not so solid game plan that was shown. But like some of you stated it was a lesson learned and hopefully they can move on and get it straight the next time around.

Everyone wants Jt to take ownwership of the NC game loss. A lot of people have criticized the coaches. Why hasn't he done this? Honesty is big for Jt. His silence is saying a lot..did the players practice and prepare like they needed too. If JT felt it all fell on his shoulders he would've taken ownership. His silence tells me something...

Coaches taking the criticism deflects it from the kids...If I had to bet, JT is fine with that.

Why take "ownership" when it is already thrown at your feet? An "explanation" opens it all to more dissection and interpretation...and more lingering. I like what JT has done...give Florida credit, handle it internally, and move on to get better so it doesn't happen again.

Thats what I mean, JT would never sell out his players and any press conference would mean answering questions that might put him being critical of his coaches or players. Jt knows what happens and will try to prevent it from happening again if he can. Somethings are out of the coaches hands.

It is unfortunate that what I was characterizing as a "magical season" ended as it did. Those who suggest that a regular season undefeated and an outright B10 championship was and is special are absolutely correct. However, I think the embarrassment of the NC game casts something of a pall over the whole season, whether it fully deserves to or not.

I think most of us who are so disappointed are so because of the nature of the loss, rather than of the loss itself. If we had finished up within 7 points or so of the Gators and it had been an unresolved issue throughout the fourth quarter, we would have been deeply saddened but proud. I don't think many of us are both at this point.

I have not the slightest idea at this point whether the final game was influenced by poor coaching, or a team individually ill prepared being out of shape and of a partying mentality, or some other factor. Whatever the reason, coaches and team will look back on the January fiasco with as much sadness as we fans do, over the years. One typically only gets to compete once in a lifetime for an NC, even with the bigger powers. For all but those around for the '02 season, January was an opportunity lost that will haunt many.

Since there is nothing we can do about that loss, there remains only the importance of a determination to focus on the '07 season and to support this year's team in Autumn. Knowing Buckeye fans, I suspect most of us will adapt to that need.

He has. He's been on 1460 saying the coaching staff didn't get them mentally prepared to play. He said he had them peaking at the wrong time and that it was his and the coaching staff's fault. I think that is enough of a responsibility statement and he shouldn't have to go on SportsCenter and put his head in the noose. And as stated above, he's not going to throw his players under the bus. He'll take the brunt of the criticism and move on. That's what leaders do. When things are good they give credit to the team-He did. When things are bad, they take their knocks-He has.

Heh, Pete Carroll is a monster when given time to prepare. However, USC at the Rose Bowl is an unfair advantage, they are practically playing at home, granted they play on the other side of town but their fans don't have to travel or anything...

This has been a bitch of mine for a while, why not rotate the location of Big10/Pac10 Game? One Year at the Rose Bowl, the next year at the Horse Show or (Yuck) the Big House? I realize weather is an issue, but for USC or UCLA that game is practically home field advantage.

Anyways, sorry to stray off topic :topic:

That is one thing about Jim Tressel and he seems to be so laid back about his approach to Ohio State football. alot of people in Florida have told me that Tressel appears to be very smug and shows no passion for his team. Thats how he comes across to people but I think we all know him alot better than that. Thanks "OhioState=life" for his post on tressel talking on 1460. I feel alittle better about that now.

I think the biggest advantage is that their players don't have to travel at all. Anyone whose had to travel with a large organization and perform probably knows the kind of differance it makes when you get to practice in your own facilities, live in your own "home," and not deal with countless other bs that could take place.
But the game will never rotate because the Rose Bowl and parade are tied together. We'd have a better chance getting the Fiesta Bowl to rotate.
I also nominate Chicago as a location. It's pretty "neutral" B10 territory, and we could probably schedule with the Bears/NFL to use Soldier Field. Or we could just let the B10 champ have complete home advantage. The logistics could be a nightmare (doing it all "last minute"), but the B10 season also ends early.

I agree with the home-field advantage. The argument could have been made anytime over the last 40 years but Michigan's poor showing (in yet another bowl) really brought it to a head.

Whether it is UCLA or USC (around 23 of the last 40 years) they have a distinct advantage. I liked the idea of holding the game in Chicago (or Indy like the Big10 bball tournemnt) every other year. No team should get a "true" homefield advantage. I am also a huge proponent of holding more bowl games in the northern part of the US. I think this would level the playing field a little.
