To answer your question, yeah, sure is. He's always been one of my faves, right from the start.
We signed him along with, uh, Kareem Walker. Think we got the better part of the deal? :sneaky: :boom:

From the Campbell thread. Seriously though, where is he? Looked promising last year in limited action, looked great in garbage time against Rutgers, and then disappeared. Not much room in the RB rotation, but he seems much closer to a true H than Campbell, and his hands can't be any worse.

Ohio State is returning an embarrassment of riches at the offensive skill positions next season. And the only problem with having all that money to work with is that it’s almost impossible to spend it all. Good problem to have, right? But that doesn’t make it any less tricky at times to sort through the options, spread the football around and make everybody happy — without sacrificing anything in terms of keeping the attack focused on what it does best.

There is no denying Demario McCall’s athleticism, and in case anybody had forgotten, he offered a couple of dazzling glimpses at it during the win over Rutgers in September with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns. And what made that 35-yard catch and a 48-yard rushing burst even more impressive was that McCall wasn’t even at full strength as he continued to deal with a nagging groin injury that some days left him unable to even run. Ultimately that issue wound up leading Ohio State to seek a medical redshirt for McCall and preserving some eligibility, which could be significant since it looks like touches could be hard to come by next season.

Demario McCall Kept Head High, Helped Where He Could During Redshirt Year

As a true freshman in 2016, Demario McCall was a big play waiting to happen. He received snaps mostly during the end of blowouts, and was tasked with running headlong into the line of scrimmage in order to move the clock. When given an opportunity to expand his line of scrimmage horizons, however, he was one of the Buckeyes’ most explosive playmakers.

McCall played in six games as a true freshman, and when given more than a couple of cursory carries, he was productive. He had total offense games of 100 yards, 85 yards, 73 yards, and 101 yards in little more than a quarter of work in each of those games. Because of his performance as a freshman, much was expected of him as a sophomore in 2017.

Unfortunately, McCall dealt with injuries for much of the season, and yet was still productive in the one game where he touched the ball more than a few times. Against Rutgers, he had 12 touches for 138 yards, with two touchdowns. After the game, Urban Meyer said that McCall still wasn’t healthy. He was essentially shut down one week later in order to preserve his redshirt.

It was a frustrating season for McCall, who is now making the transition from running back to H-back.

“The season was pretty difficult for me, but one thing about me is that I kept my head high,” he said recently. “And the people who kept my head high for me and helped me keep my head high was my brothers on this team and my father and my mom. My family. I give a shout out to them for doing that for me.”

McCall had expectations for himself as a sophomore, but injuries never allowed those expectations to get off the ground. Reliance on his family kept him going, however.

“I don’t think there was a day that went by that I didn’t talk to my father,” he said. “He calls to check on me to see how I’m doing physically and how I’m doing mentally. That’s what he asks all the time, and I tell him how I’m doing mentally and I tell him how my body is feeling physically.”

Comfortable Demario McCall Ready to Make His Mark

Demario McCall was a prolific running back at North Ridgeville High School prior to coming to Ohio State. As a junior, he rushed for 2,302 yards and earned First-Team All-State accolades. In fact, in one game against Elyria Catholic, he rushed for 445 yards and six touchdowns.

He finished with 4,519 yards rushing in his career and was named an Army All-American.

In his freshman season at Ohio State in 2016, he rushed for 270 yards. At the time, it was the most yards rushing for a true freshman running back at OSU since Beanie Wells 10 years earlier. Expectations increased in 2017, but injuries hampered McCall throughout the season and he only played in four games. Fortunately for McCall and the Buckeyes, he has been granted a redshirt and still has three years of eligibility remaining.

McCall moved to H-back late last season, with bowl practices giving him a nice head start on the 2017 season. The offseason was positive for him and the spring has been going well also.

Now that he is fully healthy for the first time since his junior season of high school, Demario McCall appears to have found a home in the Ohio State offense.

“He’s been a full-time H,” Urban Meyer said. “We’re going to be able to move him around, be more of the Curtis Samuel H. And it’s on him. The job description is very clear. When you start to get — the first two years it’s kind of on us. Once you start getting to be in year three, that’s on you. And you either need to perform or you’re not going to perform. It’s on him. And the good thing is he’s responding very well.”
