RB/WR Curtis Samuel (Buffalo Bills)

CURTIS SAMUEL GETS THE START
Meyer said it was because of his strong week of practice, but it certainly came as a surprise to most that Curtis Samuel was Ohio State's starting running back for the first two series against Illinois.

Samuel replaced Ezekiel Elliott, who had emerged as the clear-cut No. 1 back in the Buckeyes' offense. Both got an equal amount of carries against the Fighting Illini as Samuel finished with 63 yards and two scores on nine carries and Elliott totaled 69 yards on his nine attempts.

After the game, Meyer downplayed the situation as any sort of big deal and lauded the play of both backs.

"There's nothing quite like competition. And those two guys, I don't micromanage that position," Meyer said. "I certainly listen and give my opinions, but Stan Drayton came to me in the middle of the week and said 'I'd like to start Curtis Samuel this week, he's doing everything right, and practices at an extremely high level.' We still have great confidence in Zeke but we have two guys that can play."

I'm pretty excited to watch Samuel's development. He's on pace to get 600 yards or so this season. There's only been 3 true freshmen in the last 25 seasons at tOSU who've rushed for more than 500 yards---names of Smith, Clarett and Wells.

Samuel quickly became my favorite new guy this year. There are a lot of talented guys on the team right now, but Samuel has great vision. That's the one quality good back apart from great backs, and it can't really be taught. Clarett had it in spades. Beanie was excellent as well. Both were really good as freshmen.

All he needed was opportunity now let's expand the offense a lil more get our speed in space and we will beat Sparty.. Also want too See him get a chance to return a kick he's bigger faster and stronger then dontre with better Vision.
I will give you that... he runs so strong for his size and by judging his high school film i would have never thought that due to him flat out running past everyone.

IMO both Marshall and Curtis have passed up Dontre as far as explosive pivot and players that we get in space. Mainly it's due to 17 and 4 being stronger on their feet

I'm confused. Running past everyone was all he did in his highlight film. Kid has a legit sub 4.4 speed.

Exactly, he ran past everyone. You had no evidence on film of his ability to run through someone.

It's not exactly a dig, not that I think you took it that way. I read it as a 'hmmmm. That's a nice surprise... He has speed _and_ some power to go with it.'

Thank you for clarifying my statement. He just did not look as well put together and there was hardly any tape of him going through the middle of a defense. He is a lot stronger and bigger than i thought

Started thinking last night about the recruiting videos of Curtis and the impressive tape of him receiving. Something tells me we might see him catch some passes against Sparty for some reason. You know the staff has been saving some formations and plays just for this game. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing Curtis and Dontre used in some ways that are new. The diamond formation for instance was talked about a lot and then died out. With Jalin getting reps at Wildcat could we see him, Dontre and Curtis run that or some variations? I just think we are going to see Curtis catch some passes on Saturday night but it's just a hunch.

I honestly think we will see a bunch of new plays and formations..Urban knew he can handle the other teams running basic offense and come out with the Win..I'm Expecting a lot of Jalin,Curtis and Dontre for some reason

I too think the Dontre/Jalin/Samuel packages could come out...we were somewhat predictable last week for a reason...no need to show MSU anything in a blowout. There will definitely be some new looks and after Samuel was named starter for his hard work in practice, I am guessing he will be the beneficiary of some big touches on Saturday night...he is definitely my pick for the x-factor.

I agree get all 3 on the field IMO... one of them would be covered by someone who should never be covering them.

It won't happen but I'd like to see Zeke out there with them too... instead of going 5 wide with TEs we should do it with zeke, Marshall, Dontre, Samuel and either Thomas/D smith. The motions and mismatches would be very profound. However so would the protection up front i suppose lol
