RB TreVeyon Henderson (Official Thread)

Yeah he was a bigger kid. People forget Saines size.

As for Henderson, I agree that he's dancing way too much. Feels like every since Penn State last year he's had trouble getting free.
They're both the same size. And agree with you and @dragurd , no moves just straight line speed. And Treveyon looks similar. I have seen little wiggle, but he'll run past defenders if given an inch.

Trust your blocking TH!!!
And that's always been difficult for dominant, highly ranked guys coming from HS, when they could simply outrun everyone on the field(or just run through them). His HS highlight tape was praised because he wasn't touched for almost 10min, problem is, he wouldn't have the same talent gap in college. And then how do you adjust your game to that? The great ones are able to do it, and the not so great leave their fans with what if scenarios from old Youtube highlights(i.e. Saine, Jamal Berry, Mo Wells, Brionte Dunn, Warren Ball, etc).

I also think that DCs now have a year of game film on Treveyon and his tendencies. And now he must make adjustments to make himself successful. Whether that's working on blocking, catching or breaking tackles. Miyan has stepped up and diversified his game, Trey can(and should) too

I think Henderson has been fine this year….he’s been more physical than last year, with less home runs.

I think a lot of people are overlooking a pretty key aspect of why Henderson isn’t hitting the HR this year…….we are seeing a massive amount of 2 high safety looks. It prevents the homerun throw over the top but it also prevents the homerun for a RB…….which is fine….we’ll take 7 yards a carry all game.

Eh I wouldn't say that. Treveyon last year at least definitely had a jump cut. He has wiggle. Maybe not JK Dobbins level of wiggle but more like Zeke level. He just doesn't have Zeke's power.

Though both him and Miyan have been banged up a lot. It showed last week Miyan was lacking his burst he's shown all year. And there have been times where Treyveon looked gimpy this year as well

I didn't want to solely reply to the previous few posters, but I wonder if another issue with Henderson has been thinking he needs to hit a HR every time he touches the ball. Miyan is fine with hitting the hole and getting 5-6yds, but Henderson expects to bust a 20+yd run every touch. JK had that same issue early on. If he can settle down, play a little more patient and trust his OL, he'll see the big runs come

Looking back at least on the PSU game, I was probably too critical of Tre. There were moments where he was indecisive or lost his feet, but that was mostly after there were horrible calls from the offense that didn't help him out and several blown blocks from the OL where he had no chance. I can't help but wonder how much more the OL seems to like Miyan...I know that sounds stupid and I love Miyan more than anything, he gets amazing YAC and is the more effective back. But he can at least get the handoff and get to the LOS before getting hit, whereas Tre cannot even get the chance often. Just a thought after rewatching the PSU game.

Tre seems to be taking an extra sideways shift or two in the back before trying to hit the line. Maybe he's being coached to be more "patient" so he's doing an extra shuffle in the backfield. And against better defenses like Iowa and Penn State that was a killer.

I honestly think having Miyan out this week will put Trey's head firmly back on his shoulders and he'll ball out. It won't hurt that it is NW but knowing he'll get to lather up and tote the rock will probably be a bit of a confidence boost. It ahs to be hard for a young guy to be the man one second, sharing carries the next and getting fewer still the next. Especially after he was all galaxy in High School. Part of his growth for sure but I think this week may bring us some highlights of Trey that we were accustomed to seeing.

Yes and no the more I've looked at the plays we run with Tre. There are plenty of times he's not just taking off at the line like he should, maybe part of that is coaching like you said or maybe it's him just needing to stop pussyfootying around. But part is we keep running that toss from the gun to him on the short side of the field, which to me is a play that HAS to get eliminated and never ran regardless of who's in...that play is legit the worst and defies all logic of football.

The truth is usually somewhere in the middle, so I would venture to say the coaches aren't helping Tre out on some calls and other times he's just not seeing it. Whatever the case, I'm hoping those runs just give him the confidence he needs going forward to get back to looking like he did last year.

If I recall, didn't Zeke and JK have the same problem with dancing? The issue you usually see with RBs who were the fastest kid in HS. These guys come in college thinking that they're going to be the next Barry Sanders or Reggie Bush, and not realizing that they're no longer the fastest or quickest. I think its a maturation with RBs, to realize that they need to hit the hole when it opens, and not dance and try to break it outside for a highlight reel. Because in reality, they get stopped behind the LOS and keep making it look like their OL is inept. That's the difference between Miyan and Treveyon. And also what we saw with JK's Soph year, when his rushing numbers dropped, and Weber's car/avg was more than JK's. JK would go down after every ankle tackle when he close to breaking one, and kept pressing for the big runs, while Weber would hit the hole and fall forward. Trey has to learn to trust his OL, as he's never had to do that in his football career because he could just outrun everyone
