RB Roderick Smith (Official Thread)

It would take a catastrophe to not red shirt Rod. JMHO.

I agree. This is the deepest we've been at RB in a long time, and for a school like Ohio State, that says a lot. So long as we have any 3 of Saine, Herron, Hall, Berry, and Hyde healthy, it doesn't really make sense to burn a year of eligibility.

Man I love having these kind of problems hahahaha Yeah he will most likely RS but IMO next year will get serious touches. We are locked, loaded, and ready to fire with these backs...Smith is the icing on the cake. Can you imagine him with a year in the S&C program:)

If he's good enough, he'll play. That's pretty much all there is to it. It's the same for every recruit who comes into the program - show us the goods, and you'll see the field.

That being said, he'd have to be pretty darn special to see the field this year. <crossing fingers>

True...but with no spring ball and no fall camp, when will he get the opportunity to show the coaches? Practice reps are already limited due to already having 5 backs. Coaches are installing game plans for specific teams. It's going to be tough for him to seperate himself from Hyde, Berry, and Hall....barring catastrophe.

Did I hear correctly when I heard Rod Smiths name called during special teams play?

Were you watching the broadcast on BTN? If so, you may have heard correctly even if it wasn't Rod Smith actually on the field. Aaron Gant (#8) made a special teams tackle, and the BTN announcers said it was Posey. :shake:

Yeah, both Drew Basil and Smith have the same number (#24). If the special teams play was an Ohio State kickoff it couldn't have been Smith since basil was kicking off. A team is not allowed to have two players with same number on the field at the same time. However, an announcer could have goofed when he looked on his Ohio State roster (i.e saying it was Smith in lieu of Basil) to identify who #24 was.
