Roderick Smith is the King of the Summit Athletic Conference
Four-star running back Roderick Smith is the most prolific rusher in the history of the Summit Athletic Conference with 5,338 career rushing yards. The Ohio State commit broke the record in style on a 61 yard touchdown run in Harding's (Fort Wayne, Ind.) 63-7 victory over Elmhurst (Fort Wayne, Ind.).
Smith finished the game with 217 yards and three touchdowns on just 15 carries (14.5 average), the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel reports.

Harding's Smith Mr. Football candidate
Posted by Kyle Neddenriep
We'll have a story coming Friday on some of the frontrunners at the midpoint of the regular season for this year's Indianapolis Star Indiana Mr. Football, but wanted to pass along some numbers first.
If you follow high school football statewide, you've probably heard of Roderick Smith. The 6-3, 220-pound Harding running back is one of the few Indiana prep stars that has been recruited by - and committed to - Ohio State. Harding is a Class 3A program, but plays in the Summit Athletic Conference against mostly 4A and 5A schools from Fort Wayne.
A four-year starter at running back, Smith broke the all-time SAC rushing record this year. He currently has 5,507 career rushing yards, which gives him a very outside chance at breaking the state rushing mark of 7,560 set by Cathedral's Otis Shannon. This season, Smith has 737 yards on 97 carries and nine touchdowns.
Harding coach Sherwood Haydock said he's never been around an athlete like Smith, who also plays safety. In a recent game against Fort Wayne North, Smith returned an interception 98 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but had it wiped out by a penalty. On the next play, Smith blocked a potential game-winning field goal by Fort Wayne North in a 15-14 Harding win.
"He was a little late getting the publicity, but once Ohio State came after him the recruiting services really took notice," Haydock said of Smith, who is ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the state by Rivals.com behind Plainfield offensive lineman James Hurst. "He's not really into that, though. His goal was to earn a scholarship and take this team as far as he can."
Roderick Smith, Harding: With 5,507 career rushing yards, the 6-3, 220-pound running back has an outside chance to pass the state career rushing record of Cathedral's Otis Shannon (7,560 yards) if the Class 3A Hawks can make a deep postseason run.
A four-year starter, Smith ran the leadoff leg of Harding's state runner-up 400-meter relay team last spring. He's also one of the few Indiana prep football stars to commit to Ohio State.
"He has all the attributes you look for," Harding coach Sherwood Haydock said. "Rod has great speed and vision and balance. He runs like he's 5-11. I knew he was a great back, but when Ohio State wanted him, that told me enough."
Smith has 737 yards on 97 carries in four games this season and recently broke the Summit Athletic Conference rushing record. He also plays safety on defense.

Saints march back to blow out Hawks
Stacy Clardie The Journal Gazette
Bishop Dwenger hadn?t trailed in the season?s first 195 minutes.
But when Harding took a 6-0 lead early in the first quarter Friday and tacked on another touchdown to make it 12-0 midway through the quarter, the Saints didn?t panic.
. . .
Dwenger?s game plan on defense was simple: ?Stop (No.) 25,? Wright said.
?Stopping? Smith usually is holding him to less than 100 yards, and the Saints accomplished that.
Smith had 75 yards on 23 carries and had only one run of more than 10 yards. It was the second time this season Smith was held to fewer than 100 yards ? he had 72 against North Side.

I will have to admit that watching film, going to football games and keeping up with players is a job I truly enjoy. The emergence of the class of 2011 is certainly exciting to watch. I thought this would be a good time to kind of collect our breath and talk about what is happening among the best players in Indiana.
