RB Miyan “Chop” Williams (Official Thread)

Class of 2008 had ”Block O" (Mike Brewster, Mike Adams, and J.B. Shugarts) to go with Alex Boone from the 2006 class. I believe Boone, Brewster, and Adams were consensus 5* and Shugarts was rated 5* by at least one recruiting site. So, for at least 2008 and probably 2009 (can't remember if Boone declared early) we had four 5* OL.

FWIW, Boone was in the 2005 class, he didn't declare early; however, 2008 was his senior year.

Boone was in the '05 class. He played '05-'08 and left with a 1st round grade; wound up a UDFA when his drinking became public.

Williams wasn’t slated to enroll until this summer, so he has yet to go through the winter workouts. He also didn’t get a chance to visit and just be around the team during spring practice.

That will put him behind everyone else in the running back room, but that’s generally how it goes for true freshmen on a deep team.

“The guys that are here, they know the offense. So Miyan’s still gonna have to learn this thing, and would,” Alford said. “So we’re doing that and we’re continuing to do that with him. But I gotta get him ready to go because the one thing that a guy like him, proximity wise, he would be able to come up and watch practice and see some things and kind of get his feet wet by by sight. And being here, sitting in and kind of watching practice.

“So since he doesn’t have that, the learning curve is gonna be a little bit steeper. But that’s also why we coach. That’s why they call us a coach. We’ve got to get them ready to go by whatever means necessary, and we’ll certainly try to get that done.”

Just sayin': The RB room isn't exactly really packed; however, especially with Trey Sermon transferring in, I could see "Fat Boy" getting into 4 games and red shirting for 2020.

Every player is an injury or two away from never starting, or suddenly being in a starting role. A third string QB may become a post season starter, for example.

Exactly.

All these guys have the basic talent or they wouldn't be there. What they do with it once on campus is entirely up to them and opportunity waits for those who are prepared. We see it every year.

I have doubts he ever starts. I don't even see a Weber talent.
He obviously understands what it takes from a dedication and work ethic standpoint as can be seen by the transformation he has made all on his own which is incredibly hard and much more difficult to do than being on campus with Mic watching what you eat etc.

So I wouldn't doubt this kid. He may shock some people. It wouldn't be the first time.
