RB Maurice Clarett (B1G Freshman of the Year, National Champion)

A good question indeed. If JT thinks there's a good kid in there, the answer is probably never. He knows, better than anyone, the bad advice that MoC has gotten since he was, oh...about 5, but especially when he got to HS and then to OSU. I'm not making excuses for him at all, far from it, and I'm sure JT wouldn't either, but he's talked about how his team is part of his family a lot...so I am guessing he would never turn his back on his family, no matter what, so that may be where he is coming from...I'm just speculating, of course.
I think JT made clear that MC was contacting him, and he was just trying to get Mo a shot at NFL Europe. JT has nothing to gain or lose from helping MC now, he was just doing what he thought was right.

Seldom has a picture perfectly captured the essence of a football player. It was funny how OSU fans defended him when that picture came out, saying he was caught in the act by ESPN had how he had no idea what was going on. How stupid does that sound now?

I still don't think he was on the downslide at that time...it was the media (and then his "close friends and relatives") who gave him the initial push down the slope. Shit articles like the one they blindsided him with (ESPN even admitted that some of the quotes weren't entirely verbatim) were what got him believing things he shouldn't have.

Very odd timing

I agree. Even though Clarett is not a popular figure in Columbus I smell a rat.

I agree and having a very hard time understanding the timing. How many armed suspects get two days to turn themselves in? It is like it was planned to steal the thunder of another great Ohio State Victory. I would hope the columbus police would not have a hard time finding a suspect that everyone should know and what about the people that drove the SUV? Very fishy. I am sure there are some lawyers on this site that can bring clarity to these questions. I personally was waiting for the game to come on and then get interrupted with Maurice going down I-70 in a white Bronco.

Why do we continue to smell rats and conspiracies where this knucklehead is concerned? Knowing what we do about him, it is entirely likely that he was stupid enough to try to rob someone that he may or may not have known (but who likely would've recognized him, at least) in Columbus behind a bar where he knew the owner.

I'm thinking Tom Friend was in the SUV and provided the gun...:wink2:

Found this nugget buried on ESPN's Page 2:

Not to get too heavy, but: If the Maurice Clarett robbery charges turn out to be true, does Jim Tressel and Ohio State's give-him-what-he-wants policy bear any responsibility?

Tim Keown is a senior writer for ESPN The Magazine.

uh, no...WTF kind of question is that? It's tOSU's and JT's fault he is charged with armed robbery?? WTF kind of mush minded bullshit thinking is this? Does Mr. Keown have any gray matter between his ears at all? Fuck Tim Keown.

It is not about the situation being a conspiracy to take away some shine from Ohio State, the police report does not sound straight. "Is he going to rob us", "he lifted up his shirt and showed what appeared to be a gun". Clarett may be alot of things to many people but I can't beleive he IS that much of a bonehead to pull off a stunt like this.
