RB Master Teague (3rd Team All B1G)

No idea the validity of this, but saw it posted over at 247:

Guy I know who works with the trainers said it’s a sprained Achilles
would be curious to know the timing of yesterday's comment from day (below) in relation to teague's injury. i mean, day's statement was made after the practice, which teague participated in, right? i guess teague very well could have injured his achilles after practice, but the timing is odd nonetheless.

Someone is going to have to become a RB because that room is completely shot right now obviously. There’s a few WRs that are better RBs and maybe Martinez gets a shot there too.

Either way it’s spring ball so the bright side is we should get a bazillion reps for our new WRs which will also help the young DBs. 7 on 7 it is this spring...

I know many of you don’t share this opinion but I have to say Alford really dropped the ball last recruiting cycle. It’s criminal with what we have back and our reputation of RBs to have basically went 0-3 last cycle. He cannot miss this cycle.

Also had a comment about the RB room being 1 injury away from a crisis, I thought? Was that after practice?

Strained Achilles. You don’t sprain a tendon. Achilles injuries are strains, tears and ruptured.

yup. Strain muscles and tendons, sprain ligaments. Out for the Spring is probably precautionary at this point until pending MRI results. Let's hope there isn't significant damage and he'll be 100% for fall camp and season. Depth is seriously thin with a lack of proven experience at RB.

Even then. They somehow got Borland back from a spring Achilles injury in 2018 and he was quite visibly a step slower than normal.

I have never seen a football player come back from an Achilles in the same year.

Best case is we are seeing 3 healthy scholarship RB's on the roster this fall.

Obviously not a great situation to be in and 20 recruiting clearly didn’t help.

That said, and I know that seems a bit outlandish... but there are 85 D1 scholarship players on that team; many of whom have freakish athleticism, have played the position before, and are looking to see the field in any way they can help the team. Between a coaching staff who have ample of time to prepare / game plan around what they have to work with, an OL that I likely could gain 700 yards behind as a starter, the current room and aforementioned players... I suspect this team will be OK.

While, again, far from ideal... the ridiculous stockpile of raw talent from which they can draw makes this news far less dire than it would be for some other teams.

Keep everyone else healthy and all will be fine.

I disagree. There has been no ridiculous stockpiling of talent at RB. Steele Chambers, maybe McCall, and a 3 star true freshman are, as of now, the healthy stockpile. As far as just keep everyone healthy goes, how are you going to do that? You have fewer guys in the RB room than Day has said he is comfortable having in the QB room and its a 50x more physical position. Guys are going to get banged up.

IMO this is either going to win Fields the Heisman or get him injured because the run threat is now going to come from the QB position.

I disagree with this. I think that this shows Days creativity at running an offense. Fields will run, but I dont see him being forced to run as some may thin . Carrie's first RBs may turn into bubble screens, toss sweeps to slot . Guys like Gill, Cooper, JSN, McCall, Wilson could see touches in what is perceived as the run game. Idk if we see a RB getting 20+car like a Dobbin, imo if guys like Teague and Crowley arent at full strength. But the beauty is. Osu has quite a weak schedule where we are favored in almost all, and can out talent the whole schedule.

Maybe but I am thinking 1) playoff caliber opponents and 2) there is a huge difference between keeping the defense honest with a running game and making the defense fear the running game.

I think whatever gains Fields makes a a passer are going to be negated by defenses being able to cheat toward the pass because they don't have to respect a lethal running game.Last years balance is gone, against good opponents, imo.
