RB Jordan Hall (Official Thread)

Jordan Hall has been a bit marginalized since coming to Columbus. First, he was regarded as the sop to Terrelle Pryor's recruitment. Then, when he showed real elusiveness and inside running ability, he was hurt and forgotten. Finally, all the enthusiasm about Carlos Hyde put Jordan into the background again -- in our minds, anyway.

Here's hoping for a monster senior year for this talented young man.

Happy to see Hall starting at RB. But absolutely can't wait until Hyde is back a RB and Hall at HB with Miller at QB. That is one dangerous backfield. I can wait however and hope Hall has a great injury free season.

It does seem like an eternity ago when Hall had his kickoff return for a TD against TSUN. Back then, I was barely out of college!

Jordan played to impress on Saturday. He broke a couple long TD runs and got the tough yards inside as well. He's just a solid veteran who doesn't make mistakes, and who produces when he is on the field. We are fortunate to have him on our team.

Jordan Hall – Running Back – Ohio State

Hall has been a career backup at Ohio State, and if Carlos Hyde had not been suspended for the first three games this year he would have been a backup this year. With a chance to start, Hall made the most of his opportunity. He had 21 carries for 159 yards and 2 TDs against Buffalo. He also caught 3 passes for 14 yards. Hall is not a big guy, measuring 5-8 and 195 but he is very quick and fast with an instant burst. While not a top after contact runner, he has good balance and vision. If he sees an opening he has the ability to make a quick cut to find daylight. With his speed, once he gets in the open he is very dangerous. He was only used as a check down receiver in this game but did catch the ball well. He was adequate as a pass blocker. Going into the game, Hall was thought of as a free agent type. His play Saturday has already changed that but still he has to play well in games against top competition to be more than a late pick.

I think our offense is really going to take off when Hyde and Hall can take the field at the same time. Put Hall at the H, or you put them both in the backfield in a diamond formation.

That is going to be very hard to defend.

Jordan Hall building case in OSU backfield
September, 4, 2013
By Austin Ward | ESPN.com

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The first test wasn't aced, but Jordan Hall certainly passed it with relative ease.

The fifth-year senior shook off the rust from his injury-plagued season a year ago and again looked comfortable, confident and healthy with the football in his hands. He also appeared to be more than just a stand-in with Ohio State's projected starter at running back and the top backup on the shelf, turning in the finest rushing performance of his career. And if there was any doubt about his ability to handle a full-time load and work between the tackles, the durability he showed while playing a complete game in searing heat while dashing for a pair of long touchdowns up the middle of the field erased those fears.

AP Photo/Jay LaPreteJordan Hall broke two long runs and showed his versatility against Buffalo.
Officially the grade from the coaching staff was 81 percent, and that number is a more legitimate evaluation of how the Buckeyes rated his production than the 159 yards or two scores he provided on 21 carries. And for now, it will keep him at the head of the class as the stakes go up and No. 3 Ohio State starts adding some missing pieces back to its rushing attack.

"I’ve got a lot to get better at," Hall said. "There were a couple good runs, but I’ve still got a lot of work to do personally.

"This is what I’ve been doing is playing football, so it feels natural to me for me to be back there. But it was fun to be back out there with the team again."
