RB John Clay (official thread)

Clay is amazingly talented, yet has so few offers. Something is going on there, and there has to be a red flag somewhere that is keeping every school in the nation from going after this kid as hard as they should be. Clay might be the best RB in the entire nation, but he has like 2 offers.

Attitude.

If that is the case, seems like he'd be a perfect fit for Miami or FSU.

On a more serious note, that's sad to hear because he's one of the most talented players in the entire nation. The only running back that I've seen tape of that I like more than Clay is Noel Devine out of Florida, who also has his own share of problems which has caused some of the top schools to hesitate recruiting him as hard as they should be.

Attitude.

Claims that John Clay has a bad attitude are completely unfounded. I've heard only good things about his attitude. He has no incidents that I know of and comes off as a nice guy to me. He's very family oriented. The delay on his offers could have only had to do with grades, and grades alone. There was a lot of speculation about the grades issue, but I don't know the validity of that either. However, the offers have started to come in, and he does have an official offer from tOSU, so the thread starter might want to edit that into the title like the others. It should read 07' WI RB John Clay (official offer). Because he's not a linebacker, there is no way he will even think of going to a place where he'd play that position, and it's very evident that his skills say running back all the way.

And you would know about his attitude because...?

And you would know about his attitude because...?

And people who said he did would know because? I live in Wisconsin. I've seen him play a few times and have seen several interviews he's given. He did not come off as a jerk at all to me, and I think I can read people pretty well. Coaches and teammates have only had positive things to say about John as a person. I've been around Wisconsin boards, read numerous threads on him, and never read one comment about a bad attitude. The few comments about his attitude were positive. DevilyBuck on here, is the only place where I've ever read he had a bad attitude. If there was much legitimacy to it, I think I would have heard something in the 5,000 other posts, articles, and stories I've read or seen about Clay. I've read about Devine's supposed bad attitude a thousand times. I'm not saying he's lying, rather that he might be mistaken. And shouldn't a kid get the benefit of the doubt rather than not?

wadc45 doesn't post things off the cuff, so if he says a player does/may have an attitude, then I think there's at least smoke. There are a boat-load of people who live in Ohio but don't know about high school football. I hope you're right, but you'll understand that when a newbie jumps on board and contradicts an established member who is highly active in the recruiting forum, that newbie may be questioned.

- wadc only said attitude, and may have just been referring to what devilybuck said earlier in the thread
- I'm not an insider, but I do know some people sort of "in the know", I do know Wisconsin sports very well, and I do know some people from Racine. Clay isn't a bad guy, and certainly doesn't have any major issues.
- I'm a Wisconsin Badgers fan, if that wasn't apparent already. I registered here because this board came up first in searches for threads on past Wisconsin prospects (thus we are in on many of the same prospects), I liked the format, and I saw some pretty off base comments or sentiments that I would have wanted to chime in on at the time. Like Wisconsin isn't a contender for Travis Beckum...woah where did they come from. Excuse me for being a bit skeptical, but I probably do know more about Wisconsin prospects than people here. And I'll defer to Ohio State fans on Ohio prospects.
- I may be a newbie here, but I'm not a newbie everywhere. I'm a semi regular on the Wisconsin scout board under the name "goldenbernsy". So I have some credibility somewhere.

Now let's get back to John. These threads do have a tendency to get steered off topic from time to time.

I am referring to information that was passed along to me from someone very close to the high school football landscape in Wisconsin. I am not really at liberty to go into any more detail than that, other than to say I was given specific instances. I am merely suggesting that Clay's off-the-field demeanor and/or grades may be what is contributing to his lack of big time offers, given the fact that we are all in agreement that the kid is a stud.
