RB John Clay (official thread)

Journal Times

1/31/06

Local newspaper article.... announces that both Josh Oglesby and John Clay and top 15 recruits for next season. Discusses how UW views Clay as a "priority" recruit that Clay plans to keep an eye on how Wisconsin does this year. Provides some quotes as to Clays views on UW and Coach Bielema. Clay goes on to discuss setting up potential visits with Miami, Florida, and Hawaii of all places... No mention of OSU, yet.

Edit: Tressel was also in to visit Clay during the last week of Jan. on the same day that he visited with Ogelsby. UW fans are livid that Tressel has been in to visit both recruits yet Bielema hasn't reportedly had time to make the trip.

The nation's top 10 juniors according to recruiting analyst Tom Lemming of CSTV: QB Jimmy Clausen of Westlake Village, Calif.; RB John Clay of Racine, Wis.; RB Caleb King of Lilburn, Ga.; QB Ryan Mallett of Texarkana, Texas; LB Lorenzo Edwards of Orlando, Fla.; QB Cameron Newton of Atlanta; RB Bradley Stephens of McAllen, Texas; DE Ben Martin of Cincinnati; WR Arrelious Benn of Washington, D.C., and QB Pat Bostick of Lancaster, Pa.

FWIW, Lemming names Clay to his preseason top 10 recruits in the nation list.

Clay will most likely not have the grades to get into ND... Was talking with a Wisconsin H.S. reporter and he told me that Clay may have trouble qualifying period... Let's hope that John can get it together.

It seems as though grades are a problem as well as drive/determination/attitude. Hopefully he is able to get on track during his senior year and put himself in a better position to go wherever he wants to go.

John says Wisconsin is his leader followed by Ohio State, Texas, Michigan, Miami, and Tennessee. He says that an offer from Texas would put them as his leader.

John was very complimentary of each school in his list and will likely change leaders numerous times through the process.

John now has an official offer from tOSU, according to Bucknuts. http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=145&p=9&c=4&yr=2007

It's kind of odd for John to say that his favorite would be Texas, if they offered him. He has talked a lot about how important his family and friends are to him, how he wants them to be able to see him play in person, and desiring to play in big ten "country". Texas is pretty far from big ten country and his family and friends. It's maybe just a day dreaming thing. A lot of top Wisconsin players purport to covet a spot on a prestigious out of state team, but usually end up playing for the Badgers.

Clay has said he is going to take all the time allowed to make his decision.
