RB Jermil Martin (transfer to Northwestern Oklahoma State)

Keep in mind that the only real reason he got carries was because of Saine being hurt. That being said, if he continues to run well, he'll get some carries even when both Boom and Zoom are back at 100%.

I guess i can qualify as an Old Timer when i say the name Pete Johnson. Thats who Germil reminded me of when i saw that powerful body exploding into the line. I was very impressed to see that type of running again. Kind of reminded me of the old day of Ohio State. Some of you younger buckeyes may not have remembered when they (the Buckeyes) would line up in the "T" formation. Woody Hayes loved that. It was just plain ofd smash mouth football then. You knew what was coming and the defense could do nothing to stop it. But i doubt that we will ever see that formation ever again. It sure was fun football then.

Can you imagine next year? The HB competition will be intense! USC eat your heart out.

Yeah I can only Imagine and hoping that 2010 will be well worth the wait. Ohio State will be loaded off of both sides. And we have Penn State and Michigan at home is a good feeling.

OSU's Martin shows potential
Buckeyes might also use Hall if Herron and Saine are still injured

Jermil Martin rushed seven times for 75 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown in Saturday's game against Minnesota.
( ASSOCIATED PRESS )

COLUMBUS - A week ago, Jermil Martin had played in just one game this season for Ohio State and carried the ball a single time for negative two yards. Only the most ardent followers of the Buckeyes knew who he was.

After Martin's performance against Minnesota on Saturday - seven carries for 75 yards, including a 39-yard burst for a touchdown that had him dragging a couple of defenders into the end zone - some are comparing Martin to Ohio State legend Keith Byars. Byars had almost 3,000 yards rushing while leading the Buckeyes in the 1983 and 1984 seasons.

Martin, a redshirt freshman from Cleveland's football factory Glenville High who was fourth on the depth chart, got pressed into service after injuries culled the top two tailbacks from the lineup. If Dan "Boom" Herron and Brandon Saine are not cleared to play in Saturday's game against New Mexico State, Martin and true freshman Jordan Hall will carry the load.

Does anyone else want him at FB? Give him a few carries a game and use him in the passing game like USC uses their FB. I am not impressed with Borens blocking out of the I, and I wouldn't think Martin would be much of a downgrade in lead blocking.

Zach Boren has been getting progressively better at blocking, and has shown some good hands. I cannot remember the last time our FB caught a pass for a TD. However, the entire equation at FB may change if Carlos Hyde ends up on campus.....and chances are pretty good that he will.

All in all.....to answer your question, yes, I would be very interested in seeing what he can do from that position.....I kindda said the same on the "running backs" thread a couple days ago. Giving the FB a few carries, which Jermil seems very capable of, would add a new dimension to our offense.

Huh? Are you saying that Martin would not be of any help in lead blocking ?

Jermil looks very good running with the ball and we lack another power back with what he brings to the table. He could be a game changer by making defenses respect the inside power running game. He's always going down hill.

That was certainly the case against Minnesota's tired defensive front, and our O-line at that time was gashing big holes in it. I hope it is the same way against good D-lines which we will come up against in Nov.

Well I like him as a RB not a FB. He brings something to our running back stable that we absolutely need. Size, and Power. I know Brandon is strong and goes around 220 but he's still lesser size than Jermil. With all our smaller backers around the 180-200 range it's nice to have that added demension to the attack and I think it does us no good if we put him at FB. Besides Boren like stated is improving.

Kyle Theret, the Gophers DB, I think warrants a nomination as the conference's player that may possibly be worse than both Morgan :slappy: Trent and Boubabar  Cissoko.

Watch all three plays in that vid! Play #1, Theret (#27) is the DB that should have been the deep help on Posey, instead he follows Sanzo into the flat. Play #2, Theret is simply torched by Posey's speed. Play #3, Theret, the deepest man on the field with nine in the box, clearly wants no part of Martin head-on, so instead throws himself backwards and head first into one of Martin's ankles.

Brutal.

Cooper used the fullhouse T formation some inside the 5.

I remember being at a game in '74 or so, when Woody went to the fullhouse T at about the 20 yardline. They ran the same play with Pete Johnson 4 times in a row and scored a TD. I almost felt sorry for the other team.
