RB Jermil Martin (transfer to Northwestern Oklahoma State)

John Brockington.

Old-timers, back me up!

Brockington was faster and attacked the line harder. Then again, Jermil is a only freshman and the Brockington to whom I'm comparing him was a senior when I last saw him play for Ohio State, so Jermil may indeed turn out to be a 40-year later reincarnartion of Brockington (which would not be a good thing for our future opponents).

There were two runs he got 6-7 yards and if it would have been our other backs they would have gotten 3 yards.

There was a run to the right where he put his hand on the ground and got 3-4 more yards...I immediately thought of Byars. Im not as old as some of you guys that listed the other comparisons.

We are gonna need him against Iowa and PSU. If he can averages 4-5 yards in limited carries or can get us short yardage first downs he will have a huge impact out our last 3 games.

I hope next week he gets around 10-12 carries against New Mexico State. I think this kid has huge upside and is a huge asset down the stretch.

Has me wondering, however, if it was worth burning the 'shirt.

It seems like every season there is a freshman who sees the field really early and makes a big splash, then fades until the next season. I would rather keep that previous season!

See: Keith Wells, Taurian Washington, Ross Homan, etc.

Jermil redshirted last year. And I'm not sure those three comparisons are valid -- Wells is probably going to RS this year (don't think his 2008 was breakout anyway), Washington has been invisible his whole career, and Homan has always seen the field, his RS was due to an injury.

Honestly, I can't remember any RB under Tressel having such an impressive clean-up duty game since Saine vs. UW in 2007. And he's been a big piece since when healthy.

Jermil Martin's breakout game pretty much guarantees Berry will redshirt this year, barring another injury. Jordan Hall and Martin looked great yesterday in place of Boom and Zoom. We are officially 4 RBs deep this year. Getting Hyde & Roderick Smith (plus potentially Corey Brown #2 if he doesn't end up at WR) to go with Berry and the aforementioned 4... now THAT'S a stable!

My first thought on Jermil was Keith Byers, but any bruiser with nimble feet and a #41 jersey would get that thought out of me. No matter who he reminds you of, any comparison to past Buckeye greats under Woody is a hell of a compliament.

Can you imagine next year? The HB competition will be intense! USC eat your heart out.

Little bit of Brock & some Byers ( who did have remarkably fast feet placement), but as Martin cleared the LBs, I saw a fleeting glimpse of Beanie. Pile movement, going forward was my lasting impression of Martin's few carries. He'll only get better.

Brockington or maybe Otis! Not elusive, but always moving forward and finishing! I like the "finishing" part! Punishing people.
We missed a presence like this! I think he can be a big help. The inside power will change the way we're defended.

(Byers was a dancing bear kind of guy, not as much a "punisher")

OMG...you guys are cracking me up. Great game by Jermil, but c'mon, it was cleanup duty vs Minny. Let's wait and see what he does against an actual defense before we all annoint him, "The Next..."
