What happens if he really gets going good those first 5 games Herron is out? Does he have the potential to be the primary option getting the majority of the carries or does Herron get his starting job back no matter what after the suspension?
JMO but knowing JT's thinking on loyalty Herron get's it back.

as long as he don't get thrown back causing a safety or fumble in the air with no contact on him. I would say he's safe. The main problem for him will be Smiths coming out party

i know this kid has had alot of awesome practices and stuff but im holding reservation for saying hes the next beanie wells till i see him on the field in a actual game situation...everything ive seen from berry i like alot...i think he is a better RB then hall and i think he should be getting more touches then him...if Rod smith gets touches that means i think that Hyde will be the odd man out....We will see how much JT really likes Smith when we head down to Miami...i think berry has a huge day that game

if he can run up the middle with success then, he'll get a lot of carries but, if not .Then it will be Smith or Hyde's job too lose.

Whoever shows that he can run between the tackles and protect the ball at all times will get the lions share of the carries. Berry is big enough and as we all saw this past season with his limited carries, he is explosive - very explosive.

Although, all of his carries last season were late in the game. I want to see what he does against a fresh defensive line.

If he can make the first man miss or break the tackle, once he hits the second level at full speed he will be a hard man to catch and bring down.

It is going to be one exciting spring and fall following the war at runningback. The talent there in C-bus is outrageous.

I am really looking forward to the spring game, I would like to see Berry and Hyde on one team and Hall and Smith on the other. Each getting an equal amount of carries.

Why did Pittman leave? Why did Boeckman get benched?

If Berry, Hyde, Smith, or Hall "go off" and are picking up 120, 140, 160+ yards a game.. I find it hard to believe Tressel will turn the reigns back over..

If one of these tailbacks takes over, I see Herron being a spell back.. but who knows? We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

IMO JT's loyalty to upperclassmen is overrated. He is "loyal" to kids who can do the little things and that tends to come with experience.

With four or five games under their belts whoever replaces Herron will have an excellent chance of keeping him off the field.

All the guys, Hall, Berry, Smith and Hyde, can run with the wind. That's not in question. But knowing their assignments, picking up blitzes, holding onto the ball, being a team player, being a good student, these are the things that will determine whether or not you will see any playing time.

I agree wholeheartedly. I believe Tress plays the guy with the best chance to help the team on a consistent basis. Those of us who follow recruiting always want to see these big name flashy guys play but it's not like JT is trying to hold them back.
[BB73]If Jaamal can ball, he will surely do so this fall[BB73]

This.

I think people too often assume that it's a matter of loyalty or seniority that keeps some younger players on the bench, and not some of the little things that JT emphasizes are aren't readily apparent to most of us fans. I think any of the RBs have a chance in those first five weeks to establish themselves as contributors for the second half of the season when Herron is back, and I think it's going to come down to those little things even more than it's going to come down to YPC and TDs.
