RB Jaamal Berry (Transfer to Murray State)

Herron and Saine both were injured last year(at the same time) so it's very possible we could see Hall and Berry both get significant time at running back this year. Plus both are major contributors in the kicking game. Also Saine is playing more of a wingback type position which opens up time for someone to relieve Herron. Hall has so far. We have seen how quickly things can change at running back.

i would like to see a 70/30 split with Herron getting the bulk of the carries and Berry getting the others...Hall can stay on kickoff coverage and saine can line up with the WR's

I think Saine's advantage as a pass catcher is the fact that he's coming out of the backfield. There is a big difference between being a guy that can catch the ball out of the backfield and make plays and being an excellent every down WR. I don't think the coaching staff would consider a move like that.

yah i agree his advantage is he is coming out of the backfield, but what is the point of putting him back there if your not going to hand the ball off to him? and if you do hand the ball off to him then it might go for just 2 yards...thats why i would like to see saine in more of a reggie bush style role...and saine can line up with the WR's in maybe 5 wide sets, im not expecting him to do it all the time...i didnt see where saine lined up when he caught his TD against Indiana...would just like to see Tressel get more creative and try and get BOTH herron and saine on the field at the same time in certain formations

Saine was lined up at fullback in a "Weak I" set when he caught the touchdown, Herron was the running back. They ran a play action with Herron, the safety came up on the play fake then had to get back into position to cover Saine coming out of the backfield on a wheel route.

He had a catch early in the game where he was lined up as an inside slot receiver in the pistol (Herron was the tailback) and they threw a little bubble screen to him. Then he had one where he was lined up essentially as a wing back in an otherwise empty backfield and caught one off a little curl route.

Tressel has always been always been a fan of lining his backs up at receiver even with guys who would be less apt to catch passes (Ex: Beanie) to try to create some mismatches and catch teams in certain defensive calls. I just don't think he'd consider the move full time. In terms of Saine's lack of carries I just think the game sort of dictated that, we worked Hyde in a little bit more on Saturday since we had a comfortable lead. Any time your dealing with a bunch of guys back there there are going to be some that get caught on the short end of the stick in terms of touches

I highly doubt it. He has already redshirt so he would lose a year of eligibility. Not sure if it is worth it to go somewhere else and only have 2 years left while he could stay at OSU and have 3 years left...especially with Saine leaving this year and Herron after next year .

it would be a shame because i think berry's upside is greater then hall's, but he cant complain about the situation he put himself in with the marijuana bust, the injury that put him out a whole year giving hall reps instead of him...as tlangs said he would be dumb to transfer but given the RB depth here i could see why he would...hyde should not be getting reps before berry or splitting carries with berry during mop up duty...i think berry should come in right after hall and get his reps then bring hyde in

Bucknuts is saying something about Berry transfering...any truth to this? I don't think there is any way he would even think about transfering! His big years start next year!

I haven't been on Bucknuts in awhile, but I checked out the Berry thread and things haven't changed much on that site....people are freaking out....

I like Berry, but I really like Hall to, especially how he hits the hole.....

What a great problem to have.....

Anyone remember Sammy Maldonado.....
