RB Jaamal Berry (Transfer to Murray State)

He was ready to go a few weeks ago and then reaggrevated his hamstring in practice, maybe as the result of pushing too hard too soon. If he's full go at practice again this week and everything is looking good, he's going to play on Saturday. I think the staff thinks Berry is a baller and can make an immediate impact. I can't wait to see him play.

Old track coach here: If you're dealing with a hamstring pull it's not something you can "get over" in a week or two. I've lost sprinters for six, seven weeks and they're not back to full go until another six weeks. You're very limited in how much work you can do; jogging, bicycle and upper body weights are pretty much it.

I just don't see the sense of it if he's had nagging injuries. Imagine if he comes in now and gets 3 carries and re-aggravates anything? What a waste of an entire year of eligibility. This was the player I was most excited about this year....shut it down JB and come back next season.

Well all that discussion from yesterday is now null. I'm officially worried about RB depth now.

I am worried about RB depth too.....I would be very very tempted to have Flash in the backfield. It was his position in HS, and was recruited being the #10 RB on scout. This may be the quickest way to get Lamaar involved.

That's exactly what's going to end up happening. We've seen flashes (pardon the pun) of it earlier in the year.

I don't know about that. We can't really say that Hall is better than Berry if Berry was ahead of him before he got hurt.

It's not about taking reps away. It's more about rewarding reps to someone who can do something for the team. Berry is ahead of Hall and Martin in the passing game. And with the brutal three games coming up after the Aggies, you don't want just two backs being your bellcows.

Plus there is the factor that no one has any game tape on Berry. Listen, if Tressel sees enough in Berry that he brings him up every week and was trying to get him work even WHEN Boom and Zoom were healthy, it is only logical that he gets reps now that the two are seemingly out.

We have seen what Hall can do. We have not seen what Berry can actually do in a game. So, how can Berry be ahead in the passing game or anything else?
Tress has talked about Marcus Williams(#24), the walk on running back as #a viable option. And Saine could be back this week. If Berry has shown enough when healthy(I doubt more than Hall), sure play him, but not at the expense of getting Hall and Martin the reps they should get and need to be productive and not a liability.
What we don't need right now is another guy who could be a turn over/mistake liability.

Tressel said as much following the open practice.

So your argument is that we have no data to make a judgment call, so Hall is therefore ahead or at worst equal to Berry?

I guess I didn't even really throw that out there but yeah, if he would have got injured at any point in the 5 games he would have played in, it would have been a big waste of eligibility. Hopefully Flash can go back there and get some carries.
