RB Jaamal Berry (Transfer to Murray State)

Berry reports despite charges

Running back Jaamal Berry reported on Sunday along with most of the other members of Ohio State's freshmen who intend to being summer school on Tuesday, several sources said.
Of course, Berry's appearance is a slight surprise, considering the felony charge of marijuana possession he faces back in his hometown of Miami, Fla. But it also might indicate that OSU coaches and officials believe the situation can be rectified to their satisfaction before start of preseason camp. Berry faces a preliminary hearing on July 2.

College football: Berry at Ohio State as legal case unfolds
Tuesday, June 23, 2009
By Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Running back Jaamal Berry, facing a charge of felony possession of marijuana in his hometown of Miami, has joined Ohio State's summer program for freshman football players.

"As the legal process proceeds, he will be attending class and maintaining his orientation preparation academically and athletically," OSU coach Jim Tressel said yesterday. "The privilege of playing will be determined by the outcome of the legal situation."

Guy on the mid day show here in Columbus (Mike Riccordati) wasted no time in spouting off about Jaamal.

"Cut ties with him now."

"You already know what he's about."

"This is Ohio State. You don't need projects. Let Kirk Ferentz and Tim Brewster get the projects."

Every student-athlete is a project! What is this guy talking about!? That's why coaches coach, if kids were so easy to deal with, everyone would do it. They all make mistakes, that's what makes kids kids. Jeez, I have full faith Coach Tress knows what he's doing, he's been in the game for quite some time.

Not to take this off track, but any time the 97.1 guys start talking about incoming recruits, or kids who might verbal (I'm thinking about Pryor last year, mostly) they are completely uninformed. It's annoying. Hooley still has to work hard to say the word "pryor" without making some kind of back handed insult.

Nah... they are just playing the good cop, bad cop thing.

I think Castricone is in today instead of Torg... so... Riccordati is off his game.
