Burroughs alum Elliott gets two scores for Ohio State

The college football nation got its first extended look Saturday at what the St. Louis area already knew: Ezekiel Elliott can make things happen with a football in his hands.
Elliott, the 2012 Metro player of the year and a freshman running back at Ohio State, ran for two touchdowns and 162 yards during the Buckeyes' 76-0 dismantling of overmatched Florida A&M. Elliott ran for 2,155 yards and scored 50 touchdowns as a senior last fall at John Burroughs.
“I scored a lot of touchdowns in high school, but nothing is like scoring a touchdown at the 'Shoe,'" Elliott said, referring to Ohio State's famed "horseshoe" stadium. “Getting across the pylon, everyone is jumping out of their seats and screaming. It’s great.”
Elliott played just a little more than a quarter. He's one of a half-dozen backs Ohio State coach Urban Meyer likes to rotate during a game. Elliott averaged more than 11 yards a carry against Florida A&M. One of his touchdowns was a dazzling 57-yard effort in the third quarter, when he gained 121 of his yards.
“We have a great stable of running backs," Elliott said. "It’s hard to get a spot and hold a spot when the guys around you are so great. Every day we come hard to practice and try to earn our spot. It’s been good to get a little more game experience in these early games. Every time you get game reps, it makes you better."
Elliott says there is no jealousy among the Ohio State backs. The big picture — a possible national championship — is the most important item, he said.
“We compete and make each other better," Elliott said. "We’re a very close-knit group, and we work to get better as a team. We all came to Ohio State for a reason, and that’s to play.”
I've been meaning to chime in on Elliott. He really, really impresses me. His combination of speed and power is very dangerous for opposing defenses. Of all of our running backs I think he has the highest pro potential.
It's going to be fun in the future watching him and Wilson on the field at the same time.

It'll also be even more fun watching Elliott, Wilson AND Curtis Samuel on the field at the same time.
Jalin Marshall might have something to say about that.
