RB Eddie George - (1995 Heisman winner, CFB HOF, 4x Pro Bowl, HC Tenn St)

Listening to Eddie's show on SiriusXM,

He just said that he put his turkey in a brine and can't wait for those burnt end sandwiches.

This man just elevated himself in all of Buckeye Lore in my eyes. Any man that talks about BBQing (not grilling for all you novices out there, LOL) while he's at work is at the top of my list of all time greatest.

Ex-RB Eddie George Doing Shakespeare
Screen-shot-2011-12-19-at-10.37.31-AM.png

Eddie George must be glad he doesn?t have to go into an NFL locker room anymore. The below photo of the former Ohio State and NFL star running back dressed as Julius Caesar would provide teammates endless material.

George will play Caesar at The Nashville Shakespeare Festival during what it calls Winter Shakespeare, which is just as it sounds ? Shakespeare performances during a winter month.

The ex-running back will show off his skills as a thespian from January 12-29 ? except for January 28, when an understudy will get his chance.

Eddie George takes on 'Julius Caesar' in Nashville

Denice Hicks, Nashville Shakespeare Festival?s artistic director, finds that actors ? even professional ones ? often rear back like horses when faced with the playwright?s work.

But for the upcoming production of Julius Caesar, Hicks has seemingly landed a thoroughbred in terms of facing obstacles head-on. Eddie George, the former Tennessee Titans running back who has earned an MBA and fostered an acting career since leaving the field in 2005, takes on the title role in the Jan. 10-29 production.

And it wasn?t just his commanding presence or strong voice that landed him the part; Hicks, who personally encouraged him to audition after teaching a workshop he attended, says she was thoroughly impressed by ?how dedicated he is to the craft of acting.?

?It?s an artful partnership,? she says. ?I wanted it to be a good match. As challenging as Shakespeare is for all actors, I admire Eddie?s courage to step up where a lot of others are afraid. And Caesar needs that kind of courage, that ability to step up.?

Hicks is seated next to George at Bongo Java Roasting Co. as she sings his praises. He reaches out to touch her shoulder, then pauses before offering her a sincere and hushed thanks.

?It is tough,? he says. ?But I?ve always been drawn to challenges.?

George, who holds the Titans’ all-time rushing record, made his acting debut in Nashville during the summer of 2007 in a play at the Belcourt Theatre.

While many pro athletes head back to their college roots after well-traveled careers, George put down roots in Nashville. Among other Tennessee ventures, he has aided tourism officials, has worked to improve children's fitness across the state and is close to starting a Nashville drama group because he loves the theater.

On the charitable front, George served as a spokesman for former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen’s “Get Fit Tennessee” program and toured the state talking to kids about fitness. George and his wife, Taj, also have been active in campaigning locally against domestic violence and have helped raise money for facilities to aid those who’ve suffered abuse.

In business George started his landscaping and architecture venture (the Edge Group) in Columbus, Ohio, but has since opened a branch in Nashville. And when the Convention & Visitors Bureau sought a well-recognized face to help promote a video of Nashville, it turned to George.

Eddie George: First football, now ? Shakespeare?

Eddie George as Julius Caesar (Nashville Shakespeare Festival/Photo by Jeff Frazier)

LostLettermen.com, the college sports fan site and player database, regularly contributes to Shutdown Corner. Here's a look at the current whereabouts of former Tennessee Titans running back Eddie George.

Eddie George is commonly described as a Renaissance Man for his various interests away from the football field.

His next venture takes that to a whole new level.

Starting Thursday, George will play Julius Caesar in the Nashville Shakespeare Festival that runs until Jan. 29 at local Belmont University. For cynics that believe this will turn out like the infamous 1991 action film "Stone Cold" starring ex-NFL linebacker Brian Bosworth, think again.

"I'm not fresh off the football field and jumping into theater for a publicity stunt. This is something that I take very serious, that I've taken very serious and I've been focusing on since my playing days have been done," said George, who retired after the 2004 season.

He has trained with acting coaches for years for this moment and performed in several local plays before. He even has his own acting troupe in Nashville, where he is still beloved for leading the Titans to Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000.

Love lesson No. 1: Perfect isn?t practical.

Eddie and Tamara ?Taj? George don?t claim that their marriage is perfect. At times, it?s been far from. But it?s real. And it?s powerful.

Together, this famous couple wants to help others construct a solid, healthy, loving relationship through communication and faith. In their new book, Married for Real, Eddie and Taj expose deep parts of their past and present, drawing on personal stories to examine and guide readers through issues that all couples face ? time, faith, money, sex, emotional baggage and togetherness.

?Most people, when they see us, they think we don?t really have any problems,? says Taj George, who is best known as one-third of the singing group SWV and for her appearance on Survivor. ?He?s this superstar football player. I tour. So people think that we have no problems, but we are an everyday couple with everyday lives and everyday problems that we work through, and we decided to put it in the book so people can see marriage is fun ? it?s a lot of fun ? but it?s also a lot of work.?
