Very happy to see the coaching staff taking returns seriously. Under much of Meyer and Day, they’ve more or less put 2 speedsters in the back.
I’ve long said returner is the most difficult and underrated position in the sport. You have 11 big ass dudes barreling down on you while you stare in the sun tracking the football hoping not to get crushed. Meanwhile, in split seconds you need to decide to return it, secure the catch, reset your vision, decide on an unpredictable running route, and pull out your best 40 yard dash ever. It’s why guys like Ginn are a rarity in the return game. They get credited for the speed, but not the mental mechanics and processing involved.
So, no disrespect, but if some young linebacker is legitimately supplanting JSN and EE (2 of the fastest players in the team), then the coaching staff is looking for more than just a burner. Looking forward to Saturday!
