RB Daniel "Boom" Herron (Official Thread)

Boom appears to be better suited to work out of the spread than Beanie was...

...which will be a better fit for next season's offense. The offense of '08 was built around Beanie. We are going to see some changes in the backfield and Boom, Zoom and Pryor will be wowing us just as much as Beanie did. I'm looking forward to the changes and our RBs will be fine. It's going to be a very good year, and we wait.

Are you serious? Scoring too fast is a problem now? So, when Wells scored those 40+ yards TDs, that was a problem to? People on here say that they will miss Beanie because of his ability to hit home runs. Boom shows some flashes of that, and it's a problem? Maybe if he would have got more than 5 carries, then maybe, just maybe, he could have hit another home run or two.

We'll never know, but I do know that this is Boom's time to shine. No, Berry and Hyde aren't going to come in and lay down for him, but that will only bring the best out of Boom. Personally, I can't wait for next season, because Boom will only continue to prove his doubters wrong. Not calling you a doubter, but he'll only continue to handle his business.

Boom will continue to surprise almost everyone with his elusiveness, vision and quickness. He is covered with a thin dollop of vaseline, and it works nicely. Great attitude. Hard nosed football player.

I just have to say that losing Beanie only means that we witness the rise of the next bad-ass running back for Ohio State, Mr. Daniel Herron.

I don't care what any of you nay-sayers think, this kid is the real deal if he stays healthy.

He is smart, quick, and can be a burner in the open field. Do not discount his overall ability based on a very limited role this past year.

I think you all will be very pleasantly surprised how this kid will do the next couple of years.

I've got to say that Boom had a very nice RS freshman season. His numbers, when taking into account the difference in offensive output of the 2006 team versus the 2008 team, are pretty comparable to Beanie's true freshman year. I don't know that Boom's ceiling is as high as Beanies, but I think Boom could have a couple of really good years ahead of him. I think, if the cards fall right, he could hit 1,500 or 1,600 yards in a season. I don't know that he can take over a game in the way that Beanie could (i.e. no 150+ yard games against LSU while the rest of the team shits the bed), but then again we haven't seen all that much of him. He's certainly got the skills to be a very productive back, and we'll see how he does.

For what it's worth, I don't think we're going to see a huge drop off in production next year if for no other reason than Boom will (hopefully) be injured less often than Beanie was this year.

Not only that, Boom missed 3 games and was injured during the majority of the Wisconsin game.

With Boom, Saine and Berry RB should not be a problem. :pimp:

I love Boom, I have really enjoyed his running style and abilities this season. I really hope Saine can recover from his injuries and get back to where he was before, because with those two in the backfield, it is a monster threat. And we all hope Berry will make an impact, tOSU is definitely the RB U in the Big Ten. Always has been.

It's not injuries with Brandon...If a RB lacks intangables then it's awful hard for them to be successful at the D1 level. IMO, Brandon just hasn't made that transition from HS to college.

I don't doubt Brandon can contribute next year, but I am extremely skeptical about him being a big part in the offense.

I don't think any of your nay-sayers (including me) have gone out of our way to compare Boom negatively to Wells. The somewhat skeptical posts you reference were in direct response to others' assertions that Boom will be as good as Wells. No one is out to crap on Herron or has said that he's not going to be a good back. Clearly he and Beanie are different kinds of RBs. It's just to early to say whether he'll be in the top five backs we've ever had. Hopefully, he will, but it is premature to say so now.

I myself would like to see (for 2009) a couple full-house backfield formations.

2 Tailbacks and a FB. Berry and Boom, then Zoom as the FB. I think that would be absolutely devistating to the opposition.

maybe we could put Schoenhoft in at TE, Boeckman can take the snap, and we'll slide Terrelle out to WR too. The possibilities are endless.....
