RB Daniel "Boom" Herron (Official Thread)

Seriously guys...its football. We have spent weeks on here asking for more intensity and physical play. That is what Wisky did last night.

Defensive players look for KO shots...and they better take them.

If the situation was reversed, I doubt we'd have many fans calling out "dirty play"

It was unfortunate but that is football.

The stupid announcers at the end of the game praised #12 for his "Great" game last night too. I guess going around giving helmet to helmet blows makes you a good player!

He and two other badgers also took out Sanzenbacher. Yes they were playing aggressively, but not something to warrant "Great Game" comments. Those stupid announcers sucked, they confused first down plays, they stumbled on their words and in general sounded bad. I could deal with the game play by play coming off stilted and unprofessional, but give credit were credit is due and report it accurately.

I don't know about that. I don't like helmet to helmet collisions because if you get a couple concussions it can have long-term effects. I really don't know if you could say that that was playing with "intensity". My point was that I believe the play was almost over and Boom wasn't really involved in it with regards to a physical standpoint.

He had his hand up calling for the ball and the Wisky player was coming out of a block by Hartline.

If a player is worried about injuries and long term effects, he is in the wrong sport.

I remember the Miami fans crying after McGahee's injury and calling it dirty...

If its your guy doing the hitting, the fans love it. If you are on the receiving end, the fans cry dirty play.

Nevertheless, the NFL prohibits (and fines) all helmet-to-helmet contact for a reason....

The hit on Boom was definitely a cheap shot for two reasons: (1) the defender (Valai) was not trying to make a play, he was trying to take out a player, and (2) it was a deliberate crown-to-chin hit - he should have been thrown out of the game, not named player of the game by the ABC/ESPN crew. Of course, Valai comes back later and lays out Sanzenbacher with another helmet-to-helmet shot - at least on that occasion, he was trying to make a play ... possibly.

But hey, did we really expect Wisky to play a clean game, at home at night, after getting embarrassed by Michigan the week before?

The NFL is protecting an investment...I get your point, but different scenario imo.

As far as a cheap shot, I'll agree to disagree, Boom's hand was up, the WRs were in scramble drill...all the kid knows is that if Boom catches that ball and hits the seam, he is going to get blessed out on the sideline. Defensive players are taught nothing crosses your face and there is no free ride across the middle. A decision like that is made in a split second...likely even quicker when coming off of a block. He saw Boom with his hand up and drilled him.

I would expect the same thing to happen if the roles were reversed...

Example, Heyward ended up tackling Jenkins after the last INT...but he was not peeling back with good intentions. He was looking to knock someone into Minnesota and we would have all cheered like crazy.

Doesn't that at least warrant a pass interference or "illegal touching" penalty? I believe jwins harped on this after the game.

No pass was thrown so it can't be PI, and there is no illegal contact penalty in college football. That's an NFL rule.

I only saw the replay once but I didn't think it was helmet-to-helmet. It looked more like he got his shoulder pads under Boom's chin, which would also be a knockout blow.

Either way, I agree with grad21 in that had it been Malcolm Jenkins laying out PJ Hill I doubt there would be an outcry for a penalty on such a "dirty" play. It would most likely be lauded as a great hit.

The important thing is that Herron is okay, which it sounds like is the case.

I talked to Boom briefly, and he is fine.

Hitting is apart of the game, so I don't fault Wisconsin. Even if some people considered it "dirty," I seriously doubt that he (the Wisconsin player) intended it to be that way. He was just doing his job.

Glad to hear it! You don't want to see anyone, a Buckeye or not, take a hit like he did last night.

Glad to hear that Boom is okay but I am also glad that other college football players did not think hitting a guy like that is "doing his job".

I believe that type of hitting is fine and in the rules of if you're on the field your head should be on a swivel but it's the helmet to helmet that I don't like. I really don't care if a guy is being paid or not and when you' play any sport you expect the guy you're playing against to try and not deliberately hurt you.

Boom has got the best of people before (not so much in college yet though), so he knows what to expect whenever he steps on the field. I hate to see anybody get hurt, especially one of my friends. At teh same time, it's apart of the game, and Boom walked off the field.

I sound like a broken record, but I am so proud of what Boom. No, he does not have superstar status, but he's doing the best that he can against some of the best out there. He has one of the (if not the) best tailbacks in the country in front of him in Chris Wells, and he's taking in everything that he can.

Boom is working hard, and his best days are ahead of him.
