RB Daniel "Boom" Herron (Official Thread)

LV - I agree with you that a) the best players should play, and b) if there is a need burn the redshirt. Personally (and maybe speaking for a few others), it just feels unfair to the kid when he misses a handful of games because they tried to redshirt him, and then he has to "burn" the redshirt half way through the season. The other thing is if the coaches really don't feel a player is ready and he gets reps too soon and loses some swagger. But, certainly no one feels bad for any of our frosh that got to play right away...

If Beanie and Saine really can't play at all, them I'm on board. We will need Boom for depth if no other reason.

no one is making a huge fuss about Rocco Pentello apparently being red-shirted... the hullaballoo only comes on the heels of Saine's scope job and Beanie's ding-ups...

my issue is mainly with the people who are freaking out... go figure. like the one's complaining that MoW shouldn't be out there, and that he's stealing carries from (whomever) without realizing that he's the best we have at blitz pickups in the passing game... well, if we only put him in when we pass, that would be a rather significant tell. so he HAS to get carries, regardless of whether someone else on the roster is better at running the power-O.

but anyway. if the coaches need Boom to play, he'll play. if not, they certainly aren't going to burn a year of eligibility just to give the guy three to five carries per game.

Do we know how Boom feels about being redshirted? A lot of kids want to be redshirted, especially if they're coming in at a position with someone in their same class(such as two running backs or two quarterbacks).

I couldn't care less whether or not he redshirts(assuming the decision is made based on what's best for the team), but I'm just throwing that out there.

Coach Tressel gives plenty of commnets on the week to week decision to redshirt Boom despite the excellent performances he was having in practice.

If JT has been contemplating burning Boom's redshirt despite having the "Wells Bros." and Zoom, Boom must be tearing it up during practice...
