A former running back at Chattanooga, Locklyn has climbed the coaching ladder at an impressive pace. He began coaching in 2009 as a volunteer for high schools in Tennesee while he worked as a corrections and police officer. Locklyn later referred to himself as a “walk-on” coach during those years, and the name of his account on X still reflects that perspective.

Ohio State hires Oregon running backs coach Carlos Locklyn as its replacement for Tony Alford.

Locklyn initially seemed likely to stay at Oregon after signing a contract extension with the Ducks earlier this offseason. Ohio State, however, convinced him to leave its new Big Ten rival for Columbus. Ohio State will have to pay a $366,667 buyout to Oregon, equivalent to what Locklyn’s remaining salary at Oregon for this year; had Locklyn left Oregon before Monday, he would have owed a buyout of $733,333 to cover the full remaining balance of his two-year contract.

Locklyn first became a collegiate running backs coach at Western Kentucky in 2021. He previously spent three years at Memphis, progressing from weight room assistant in 2017 to offensive analyst in 2018 to director of high school relations in 2019, and served as the director of high school relations at Florida State in 2020.

A former running back at Chattanooga, where he played from 1996-99, Locklyn started his coaching career in the high school ranks, serving as offensive coordinator for four different high schools in Tennessee from 2009-16. Locklyn worked in law enforcement before becoming a full-time coach, working both jobs simultaneously when he initially joined Memphis’ staff.

And he's recruited in some big talent hot beds as well(TN, MS, AL and DC). I think his intensity and realness will be welcomed in OH.

I would’ve done it for half that… but.

On a side note that’s really low. Hopefully we put in some escalators for recruiting and stuff.

Land a top 5 RB you get 100k, land the best RB get 250k etc

Locklyn was set to make $400k at Oregon. He’s only been a RB coach for really 3yrs, he honestly is getting quite a big pay bump. And he gets to work with the best collection of talent he’s ever gotten to work with. We will see how well he can recruit with the 2025 class, though he has time to make up

If he can get Davison and one of Davis/Jackson, I think that’s a win.
