RB Coach Carlos (Crunchy Cookie) Locklyn (Official Thread)

“I THINK HE’S GONNA HAVE A GREAT IMPACT ON OUR TEAM AND A GREAT IMPACT ON RECRUITING. I THINK HE’S GONNA BE A TREMENDOUS COACH.”– RYAN DAY ON CARLOS LOCKLYN

“We wanted to find somebody who wanted to be at Ohio State at a high level. Carlos does that. He checks that box,” Day said. “He brings a lot of energy to the table.”

A former running back at Chattanooga, Locklyn has climbed the coaching ladder at an impressive pace. He began coaching in 2009 as a volunteer for high schools in Tennesee while he worked as a corrections and police officer. Locklyn later referred to himself as a “walk-on” coach during those years, and the name of his account on X still reflects that perspective.

“I love that about him,” Day said. “Like some of us in this profession, he came up not in a football family but grew up and kind of had to figure it out on their own. He’s one of those people. When you listen to how he came up in this thing, he’s very appreciative of all the opportunities he’s gotten. But he’s earned them all, and he deserved them all. He really earned and deserved this opportunity.”

Sneak-diss on Harbaugh after his last comments? :sneaky:

Why Ohio State wait until today to sign him you ask.

Locklyn initially seemed likely to stay at Oregon after signing a contract extension with the Ducks earlier this offseason. Ohio State, however, convinced him to leave its new Big Ten rival for Columbus. Ohio State will have to pay a $366,667 buyout to Oregon, equivalent to what Locklyn’s remaining salary at Oregon for this year; had Locklyn left Oregon before Monday, he would have owed a buyout of $733,333 to cover the full remaining balance of his two-year contract.

CARLOS LOCKLYN’S COACHING HISTORY
YEARS POSITION SCHOOL
2022-23 Running Backs Oregon
2021 Running Backs Western Kentucky
2020 Director of High School Relations Florida State
2019 Director of High School Relations Memphis
2018 Offensive Analyst Memphis
2017 Weight Room Assistant Memphis
2015-16 Offensive Coordinator Cordova HS (Tenn.)
2012-14 Offensive Coordinator Manassas HS (Tenn.)
2010-11 Offensive/Defensive Coordinator Westwood HS (Tenn.)
2009 Offensive Coordinator Trezevant HS (Tenn.)

Locklyn first became a collegiate running backs coach at Western Kentucky in 2021. He previously spent three years at Memphis, progressing from weight room assistant in 2017 to offensive analyst in 2018 to director of high school relations in 2019, and served as the director of high school relations at Florida State in 2020.

A former running back at Chattanooga, where he played from 1996-99, Locklyn started his coaching career in the high school ranks, serving as offensive coordinator for four different high schools in Tennessee from 2009-16. Locklyn worked in law enforcement before becoming a full-time coach, working both jobs simultaneously when he initially joined Memphis’ staff.
Love his story. Really started from nothing as far as coaching goes. Director of high school relations gives an idea of how he is on the recruiting trail.

Especially for a guy who cares about recruiting as much as Mike Norvell.
And he's recruited in some big talent hot beds as well(TN, MS, AL and DC). I think his intensity and realness will be welcomed in OH.

I would’ve done it for half that… but.

On a side note that’s really low. Hopefully we put in some escalators for recruiting and stuff.

Thats how I’d do it.

Land a top 5 RB you get 100k, land the best RB get 250k etc
Locklyn was set to make $400k at Oregon. He’s only been a RB coach for really 3yrs, he honestly is getting quite a big pay bump. And he gets to work with the best collection of talent he’s ever gotten to work with. We will see how well he can recruit with the 2025 class, though he has time to make up

If he can get Davison and one of Davis/Jackson, I think that’s a win.
