RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

I don't see much of Eric Dickerson's style aside from having a straight up running style. Dickerson had a long stride where Wells is much shorter. more like Jamal Lewis' stride. For those of you that remember him, Chris Warren of Seahawks fame was someone that came to mind when watching Wells. Damn near the same height and weight if I remember correctly....hopefully, Wells will have a more consistent career than Warren did in the NFL.

The two glaring weaknesses I see with Chris, which are obviously 2 he will iron out is, one, he holds the ball wildly. Looks like he has big hands so simply cradling the ball better will cure that; and he seems to have too much of a straight up run style going into the middle at the line of scrimmage. He's too good for his competition to really test him if he turns it on outside but he won't get away with that as much in college. He'll get leg tackled alot but few will pull him down if they go above the waste.

I love seeing big backs that have short strides and square up when getting hit from all sides. Chris has that already. It's obvious he's way ahead of the curve at this point. Getting his committment over with will really help Chris out in getting prepared for the next level.

Akron Garfield

Forgive me for giving away my age, but didn't Larry Poole a running back at Kent State and the Cleveland Browns during the 70s also attend Garfield? Either way, have there been any other "name" backs coming out of Garfield since then? Just curious.....

a. winfield and a bunch of guys to minny, ksu, akron and pitt

In the 80's , charles gladman was one of the top backs in ohio and went to pitt and was a starter

firestone park in the area of garfield school always produce outstanding players in football, bb, soccer and wrestling but, the main problem is that they all go opposites ways to garfield, st,v. hoban , walsh and buchtel

one example, Lopenski from firestone park played fb football for walsh and notre dame and still in the pro's.

It just keeps getting better and better !!!

The future of Buckeye Football just gets better and better. Chris is going to do some great things at Ohio State with this offensive line. It's going to be fun seeing him run over people.

Welcome to the Buckeye family Chris !!!

Lot can happen between now and signing day. For instance a guy like A Russell may get a chance at RB and really impress therefore the need for a 4th back may not be that great!!

I read in my BSB today that Freddie Lenix may get a look at RB.
He's not much smaller than CW and with 4.4 speed.

I believe Lenix is 5'10" and 195lbs, thats quite a bit smaller than CW at 6'1" and 220 with growing left to do. I remember Lenix being this size because many people are concerned that he does not have the frame to add the 20 lbs needed to play LB at the college level.

Wells has very good speed despite his short, choppy strides. Give him some time with Ted Ginn to teach him to lengthen and improve his strides, and he'll become a real burner. Wells also showed good power in breaking tackles and some excellent juke moves in avoiding defenders. We got ourselves an excellent back in Wells, and with proper training and coaching, he could be All-American caliber in a couple years.

take a close look at these videos, notice that when he does get tackled, it's never by one guy. i love that in a running back!

he has all the moves, looks like i'll be making a few trips this fall to watch some garfield games.

welcome to the buckeye family chris!!!!

Another good one from Biddle.

Chris says Gwaltney not coming to tOSU played a major role in his quick decision. He loves everything about Ohio State and especially the running back situation he will come into. His nickname of "Beanie" came when he was a baby and his brother said he had a bean head. Chris is not interested in individual awards during his senior year, but is focusing on team goals. He admits he was a scUM fan growing up due to a cousin playing for TSUN in the 70's. However, he switched to tOSU last year and is 100% Buckeye now. He is actively recruiting players to commit to tOSU. Chris will graduate early and be at tOSU for Spring Qtr and practice. He says Coach Jim Tressel is the best coach he has met and he also enjoys Doc Tressel as well.
