RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

did anyone else notice on his 20 yard run (after the 'whoa! Pittman is fast--wait a sec-- holy SHIT!!! that was WELLS!??!? the kid's gonna be a MONSTER!' moment, that is) when he was running back to the huddle with Rory Nicol, that Beanie is considerably thicker through the legs than the 250 LB TE? there's no way Beanie is only 225... i'd guess he's closer to 245... and he has some SERIOUS wheels...

BY JIM NAVEAU - Oct. 2, 2006

COLUMBUS ? Before he gained 78 yards on 14 carries in Ohio State?s 38-17 win over Iowa on Saturday night, freshman tailback Chris Wells? numbers were meager.
But the smile on his face outside OSU?s locker room underneath Kinnick Stadium after No. 1 OSU?s decisive victory said that this was more like it, that this chance was what he had waited for.
Wells, who arrived at Ohio State touted as maybe the best freshman running back in the country, had only 96 yards in the Buckeyes? first four games.
The biggest reason for that inactivity was the presence of a good tailback already at Ohio State. Junior Antonio Pittman got his fourth 100-yard game of the season against Iowa and led Ohio State with 1,331 yards rushing last season.
Any other reasons for keeping Wells under wraps haven?t been supplied, though coach Jim Tressel?s history is that he doesn?t play backs until they can provide help in pass blocking.
Wells didn?t care about reasons, he just cared about getting to run with the ball again.
?I?ve just been patient. Tonight my time came and the coaches let me go out and play,? he said. ?I was just so glad I could go out there and help the team.?
Wells played a significant role in three Ohio State scoring drives against the Hawkeyes.
With OSU up 14-10, he carried for 19 yards, 11 yards and three yards and caught a pass for a 6-yard gain during a 12-play, 89-yard drive that made it a 21-10 game.
The 6-1, 225-pound freshman got two yards in a fourth-and-one situation one play just before the 30-yard Troy Smith to Anthony Gonzalez touchdown pass that put OSU up 28-10 in the third quarter. Then he carried three straight times, for 13 yards, four yards and three yards, before an Aaron Pettrey field goal that gave the Buckeyes a 31-10 lead early in the fourth quarter.
Wells admitted waiting for a chance to play was ?kind of difficult.?
?But the coaches and my father told me just to be patient and my time would come,? he said.
He also quoted his father when talked about getting the yardage he needed on fourth-and-one.
?My father always taught me that if you?re a running back and you can?t get a yard, then they don?t need you,? he said.
Pittman rushed for 117 yards on 25 carries and scored a touchdown on Saturday. He has 567 yards rushing this season.
The presence of two good running backs is a good thing for Tressel. He insisted he has three of them after Saturday?s game, saying ?Maurice Wells didn?t get a lot of chances tonight.?
Chris Wells says that even though Pittman?s presence is a big reason he hasn?t had more nights like Saturday, there is no rivalry between the two tailbacks, both of whom are from Akron.
?Pitt is like my brother. And when I say ?brother? I mean like a real brother. He tells me when I?m doing the right things. He tells me when I?m doing the wrong things,? Wells said.
Chances are, he heard quite a few good things about how he played against Iowa.
