RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

Beanie

It's a proven fact... every good college back needs a two-syllable name for the student section to chant.

Let's look at the past at OSU... cries of arch-ie (tap tap) arch-ie, and edd-ie... edd-ie

Imagine a full Horshoe chanting Bean-ie... bean-ie... starting off in Block O and making it all the way past C-Deck.

It's perfect on so many levels. Too bad I'll be alumni.

In all fairness, lets not forget the chants of Mau-rice, Mau-rice in 2002. I was at the Wazzou game that year, and will never forget the game he had. Seeing CWells play (on video anyway), I can't help but think that Bea-nie is another MoC, minus the headache. I'm drooling at the thought of a Pittman-Wells combo next season.

Hopefully Beanie doesn't get swallowed up in the hype machine. Reading and listening to his interviews, he seems like a kid who has a great support system at home. I think that's the key to any kid successfully handling the hype that goes along with being touted as the next great tailback at Ohio State.

Man, when's the spring game??

He's not a back, but let's not forget Nuuuuge.

Chris Wells - Other Skills ?

I don't want to seem that this post is critical of Chris, I hope he can become the type of football player the we all envision. I just wonder how those who have seen him play would rate the other skills that we would expect from a super running back; specifically blocking and pass catching.

I seen him run in the San Antonio All-Star game and on some video clips; he's just flat-out superior. But has he demonstrated pass-blocking skills for his QB, and pass-catching abilities such as screen passes, etc.. Maybe we can get some comments from those who have seen him play in high school or on film in these areas. If he hasn't demonstrated those attributes in high school, because he just didn't have-to; hopefully he'll quickly develop them during Spring Pratice and the Fall Pre-Season.

He was a pretty good receiver out of the backfield. Very solid hands. However, he tends to take plays off when running some of his routes in the flats. His team hardly ever passes, and when they do, their qb was rolling out the majority of the time. So there wasn't enough to get a good read on the pass-blocking. Quite simply, Beanie and fellow rb Cortez Jones were the team.

his only need will be improving his endurance. He runs so hard and attacks the defense like a lb'er with the ball so it has to tire him down very hard .. At OSU they will fix that easlly and I can't wait to see him teaming up with smith, ginn, pittman, gonzo to give the Bucks there most athletic offensive team in along time
