Beanie (and others) update
Coach Ken Whisenhunt said Beanie Wells seemed no worse for wear after tweaking his ankle sprain last night and that soreness and playing through it is just part of the healing process. Wells will still practice this afternoon, get some reps, and the Cards will monitor his situation. Playing Saturday remains an option, but it's not like Whisenhunt thinks it is the end of the world if Wells can't go.
All the other "new" injuries, Whisenhunt said, were precautionary sit-outs, with CB Bryant McFadden (ankle), DL Bryan Robinson (knee) and LB Ali Highsmith (ankle). Whisenhunt said McFadden actually wanted to practice and was told not to by the staff.

Hoping to play
Running back Beanie Wells, the team's first-round draft pick, took a few snaps in practice Thursday, and coach Ken Whisenhunt hopes Wells can play Saturday against the Chargers.
Wells suffered a sprained right ankle Aug. 1 and hasn't practiced much since. He aggravated the injury Tuesday night in practice. "He fought through that, and (Thursday) was a little bit better," Whisenhunt said. "Hopefully it will progress enough that we can get him in there (Saturday) for a few snaps."
Post-game thoughts and observations
-- Running back Beanie Wells, the Cardinals first-round pick, hasn't played in the preseason because of a sprained ankle. Coach Ken Whisenhunt said earlier this week that he hoped to get Wells in against the Chargers, but I wondered if he ultimately would risk it.
Wells aggravated the ankle injury Tuesday, and to me, he still didn't look smooth in pre-game warmups. He needs the work, obviously, but Whisenhunt is being cautious. The run game looked good tonight, with starter Tim Hightower averaging 4.7 yards on 9 carries.
Whisenhunt expects Wells to play Friday against the visiting Packers.
First round pick Beanie Wells took more snaps in practice Monday than he has since suffering a sprained ankle on Aug. 1. Wells looked smooth at top speed and didn't seem to have a problem cutting. Barring a setback, he should play Friday against Green Bay.
Beanie looks good
Some quick after practice stuff, aside from the news rookie LB Cody Brown is out for the season with a wrist injury:
-- Beanie Wells "looked explosive and fast," coach Ken Whisenhunt said in Wells' most extensive work since camp started and clearly his best work. Whisenhunt noted Wells made it to the perimeter a couple of times with some speed.
