Wells to miss most of next week

It looks like Cardinals rookie running back Beanie Wells will miss most of the week of practice due to a sprained right ankle (not his left, as the team said yesterday).

Wells will be evaluated again toward the end of the week.

Wells suffered the injury during a simple run drill about halfway through Saturday's practice and left the field on a cart with about 15 minutes remaining. He was able to walk after the injury.

Beanie won't be back right away
Posted by Mike Florio on August 2, 2009

Though Cardinals rookie running back Beanie Wells indeed has a sprained ankle, it looks like he won't be back soon, as previously suggested.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt addressed the situation on Sunday, and statement implies that Wells won't be back until the middle of the week at the earlier -- and that by the middle of the week the team might conclude that he'll be out even longer.

"His M.R.I. revealed a right ankle sprain but at this point it doesn't appear serious, which is obviously good news," Whisenhunt said in remarks released by the team. "In terms of missing time, it's tough to say now but we should have a better idea in the coming days."

Different types of ankle sprains entail different amounts of recovery time. The so-called "high ankle sprain" often requires a month or more of rest and treatment.

Your bombness is no longer legendary.

I've been on this earth for over 11,300 days and make one error in judgment. That's an ineffective bombness rate of .0000884. I'd say that's still pretty legendary!

I wasn't really a UM fan for the day. I was actually hoping Notre Dame would win, but I couldn't tell my boss that so he would keep the alcohol flowing.

You failed to equate the severity of that one judgment call. You might as well have kicked a 1 year old in the mouth.

Look at it this way, if your boss was a UofA fan and said he was going to pay for your trip to Tucson to watch UofA play USC and you got to miss work on Friday, you'd do it. I bet if he was paying for you to get drunk at a UofA tailgate, you could get suckered into buying a UofA t-shirt to wear to the game. You could care less if UofA or USC wins, but it's more out of respect to your boss that you pay $10 for a crappy t-shirt.

I might puke in my mouth that you said you rooted for UofA for a day, but I wouldn't pull your bombness card! That's just wrong! You've all seen what happened to Austin Powers when he lost his mojo. That would be me if I lost my bombness.

First you say you were a Michigan fan for a day.

Then I read that you rooted for Notre Dame.

You should've rooted for suicide on that day, suicide by giant meteor crashing the stadium. Burn the shirt, btw.

EDIT: Get well, Beanie. Forgot where I was posting.

Beanie In A Rush To Find Role
Hightower the starter as Cardinals figure out running back rotation
By DARREN URBAN

Beanie Wells smiles while talking to the media Saturday during his press conference following the announcement of his five-year contract.

FLAGSTAFF ? Beanie Wells wanted to be an Arizona Cardinal as quick as possible, so much so that he made the two-hour drive to camp in the dead of the night against the preference of his head coach.

Arriving at 3 a.m. isn?t necessarily going to get Wells the starting running back job, nor will the weight he has lost (22 pounds since he was drafted, to his current 224) or the extra work he has put in with teammate Larry Fitzgerald.

Those things can be building blocks, however, as the Cardinals? No. 1 draft pick ? who signed his new five-year contract late Friday night after missing the team?s first two training camp practices ? tries to displace Tim Hightower atop the depth chart.

?My plan has always been to come in, learn as much as I can, and eventually

be the number one guy,? Wells said Saturday before his first practice. ?I?m the type of guy, I like to get the ball, and I like to get it often. I haven?t thought about sharing carries too much.?

Wells said all of that with a smile, and it isn?t arrogance that emerges with the words. His role will be an evolving process. That would have been true regardless in his rookie season, but given that he has barely been on the field ? missing every organized team activity this summer because school had not finished ? it is hard to gauge exactly where Wells fits.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt couldn?t compare the styles of Wells and Hightower because he hasn?t seen enough of Wells. Given Whisenhunt?s gradual use of last year?s No. 1 pick, cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, it stands to reason Wells too may be brought along slowly.

?Tim is the starter, but we will play the players that give us the best chance to win,? Whisenhunt said. ?With the running back position, it?s unique, because I don?t think one guy can take every snap at that position. We?ll figure out that rotation.?
?I want to lead us to another national champ? well, not a national championship,? Wells said with a chuckle, catching himself with the college football reference. ?I want to lead us to a Super Bowl.?

Camping out

Camp confidential: The Cardinals aren't overly concerned about the injuries to running back Beanie Wells (ankle) and receiver Early Doucet (shoulder). But everyone knows they are missing out on valuable work. It's questionable how much they will be able to play, if at all, in the preseason opener in Pittsburgh next week. If Wells and Doucet are able to return for the final three preseason games, all should be fine.

Notes: Patrick thankful team stands by him
