Archie had fumblitius too. Cost him some time on the pine, but when he came back the disease was gone.

Maybe you give the ball to Stan White or Pepper Johnson's kid.

Yesterday was like watching the 02 (Minus MoC) - offense. Ouch!

Is there no one else besides Mo and Beanie?

Yeah i felt like i was watching the 2007 Buckeyes.

I think Beanie has been wearing gloves for the entire season while in high school I don't think he wore any. Maybe that has something to do with the problem. On the fumble yesterday it seemed like he just didn't have a good feel for the ball.

Also, I coach high school football and we played a few games on turf this year. It looked like Illinois has fieldturf. On fieldturf the ball really seems to dry out and get slick when the weather is cold and dry. Still, we can't make excuses. A fumble is still a fumble.

I really think that in the long run this whole situation will end up being a benefit for Chris. If he weren't having any problems it would almost seem too easy for him. Some adversity will help him grow as a player and as a person.

Everyone needs to stop making excuses, wheter it be sleeves or gloves and especially when the argument ends with "if you've played football..." bullshit. Heres the problem at this point (aside form legit things life forearm length and postioning of the ball), he's thinking about it way too much. Its now an issue..

The guy has been a RB since he was a young kid, and he has had 10 games now to work this out. There is zero--absolutely zero--excuse for fumbling the ball in open field with no contact. Pittman is 20-30 pounds lighter and has fumbled the ball once all year (yesterday, after getting the shit beat out of him all day). I've said this before and I'll say it again...when Beanie runs into the line he needs to have both arms wrapped around the ball.

We will need him for The Game. MoWells has a stinger and those things take a long time to heal and as such it's dangerous to play him, so Beanie is going to have to help out Pitt, whether we like it or not. He cannot--must not--fumble in The Game.

He carries the ball too low. When he fumbled without contact yesterday, he was carrying it below or at his waist. He needs to Tiki Barber that ball up against his chest.

I did not rewatch the game but it looked like he was trying to adjust it slightly in his left arm and it just popped right out. I thought he had it in his left arm the whole run.

I haven't rewatched it either, but if the run was to the left, he formed the pocket with his right arm on top...so you could be correct. It looked as if he was trying to get to the outside arm (left) when he lost it. Either way, it is an unacceptable lack of concentration.

Amen... too many excuses...

Reguardless of the fumbles, we need Chris Wells on the field. Pittman's not a 30 carry per game back and he looks like he's been a little off since his ankle got knicked against Bowling Green.

Last 4 games

Pittman - 87 carries for 337 yards (3.8 ypc)

Wells - 41 carries for 239 yards (5.8 ypc)

C.Wells is still a FRESHMAN.Physically he is impressive, and if he played on a team out of the pressure of being NO. 1 fumbles could be tolerated. This team is going for a NC which makes your margin for error small. Beanie will get chances next week but appears he's not yet ready for the biggest stage. Now let me say this doesn't mean he won't be an All-American later in his career, he's just not ready now.

He fumbled in the midst of switching to his outside arm...

I'm rewatching the fumble right now (in HD). This is pretty interesting, but I'm almost positive that what he was doing is taking his right hand and trying to clutch it over the ball which was in his left hand to further protect it. He just misjudged where the ball was and his right hand pushed the ball out of his left. It was like a failed sobriety test.

I'm just not ready to get down on Beanie yet. He is one hell of a talent. Remember, this kid just turned 18 years old. How he is dealt with now could effect him for the rest of his career.

I know the solution...Anybody see the movie The Program?
