RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

Hall showed considerably less vision in the pre-Boom games, consistently missing unplanned cutback lanes and plowing into the clogged places he was supposed to run.

True, but that's something you see with an increase in game time carries.

He'll get it, but Boom at the moment is the better back and the better back should play.

to clarify, I meant Hall's vision compared with Hyde. I thought it was criminal to not use him in the second half vs Sparty, much like giving him more carries against Nebraska.

Neither are in Boom's galaxy, but I think Hyde has been the better runner out of the two backups.

I haven't seen a lot of difference in vision between the 2.
Hyde is faster. Fastest back on the team it's been said.
Having Hall move around has probably hurt his developement some but he'll never be a full time/heavy lifting guy. He's a "third down" type.

... and if I recall correctly, he was one of the first to make it over to Hall when he cramped up. I thought for a second that he was likely checking if he needed to be ready to go but I'm pretty sure he didn't have his helmet with him... Looked to me like he was concerned for his teammate.

I hope that a stupid post on twitter doesn't cost him and Buckeye Nation the benefit of seeing him be the big time back we all expect him to be.

It's been said many times this year, kids will be kids. Do the time to get out of the dog house and move on...

What I like about Hyde is that when he gets hit he has pop. He gets another yard or two or three or more every time he gets hit as long as he is squared up which he is most of the time.

I do not understand why not have a couple packages with all three in the game. Put Hyde at Fullback and run the option with Jordan at the slot. Who you going to cover and a ton of options and mismatches. Line Stoney at WR and now look at the blocking on the outside..

Because our games are played on grass and dirt, not on the Xbox 360.

Several teams (Nebraska, TBPU) have moved to the "diamond" as a part of their game plan, a pistol version of the inverted wishbone. Seems we'd have the horses...

Zach Boren does pretty well at fullback in my opinion. Carlos just needs to be patient.

I couldn't disagree more. Seen clearly in the Miami and Colorado games. Nobody ran well against MSU. I will give Hyde credit on his Nebraska game but I just felt like early in the year he showed a lack of patients and vision when running.

ZB is a great blocking fullback and can catch. I think what the OP is saying is that he would like to see Hall, Hyde and Boom in a full house backfield where each of them is a threat to run the ball. Obviously you would be giving up Boren's blocking ability in this scenario, and call me silly, but I'm not convinced that it would be a good idea to completely abandon our current offensive scheming at this point in the season. Maybe in a goal line situation it would be an interesting twist.
