RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

So much for the stable of RB we had envisioned. Boom graduated, Hall hurt, Hyde hurt, Berry transferred, Ball hurt. Even Homan is hurt. Down to Dunn, Smith, and Boren.

Isn't Hall supposed to be back this week? He was expected to be back for Central Florida, but was kind of a late week decision to keep him out one more week.

Hall was medically cleared this week, but that doesn't mean he will start or get majority of the carries. But who knows, he could go all Adrian Peterson on the first week and play dominant post-injury. He is still week to week until he is 100% healed. Im sure they are worried about infections and what-not. The coaching staff will curtail his PT to how practice goes this week.

As for Hyde, I would rather him not rush himself back. Do the Bucks need him right now? Yes, we need the leadership in the backfield, but not as much as they will need it in October and down the stretch. He seems like a gutty player that will play with injuries and not complain an ounce (see Beanie Wells). I just hope this doesn't get rushed by Hyde and become a nagging issue.

They are okay without him for the next couple of games. They will need him on the 29th against MSU so give him the time off and don't rush him back. I would rather he come back at 100%.

Absolutely. This team should definitely be able to beat Cal/UAB with a partial Hall, full Braxton/Philly/Bri'onte and co.

I'd make damn sure Carlos was healthy before that Sparty game, we'll definitely need a big body taking a lot of carries, as opposed to Braxton.

This could be pretty sweet though, get Jordan and Carlos back at 100% and semi-rested for that 10/29 game.

Air it out.

I would like to see Braxton handle the passing duties anyway. The guys in the backfield can run and we can work Hall back into the mix but I'd like to see the emphasis this week on Braxton running the entire offense, not just running.

Get well Prime. We need you for conference play bud.

If 'Los is healthy and ready to roll this weekend, how many carries do you think he gets with Hall back in the saddle?

If not for UAB, then how much do you think we use him versus Sparty?

Just trying to generate some good convo on a topic that I think deserves it. I personally think IF he plays versus UAB, he'll get 10 carries max. I'd say how many he gets versus Sparty depends on the offensive chemistry and dynamic created by having him and Jordan healthy since we've yet to see that. I think we could certainly see some two back sets featuring both Jordan & Carlos, which I think would be something new and perhaps confusing against a tough D like MSU.

IF he's still out for UAB and we don't see him until Sparty, I'd say he'll be used as the bruiser and come in on more short yardage situations. Which is nice, because even though he's our bigger, grinder back, he has good hands and creates some challenging match-ups for any defensive set. I think more than Hall, his production and touches depend heavily on the flow of the game.

Lastly, I'll state the obvious and say that because our offense seems to be a streaking, hit & miss, ongoing trial & error of sorts, I think we'll take whatever works well against UAB this Saturday and build off of it going into the Sparty game. I think for sure we'll see some nice wrinkles in that game...especially with the personnel swapping in particular formations. One minute we're on fire, and the next we can't get a first down for 3 or 4 possessions in a row. Since we're constantly evolving, it's fun to watch our players & coaches experiment with the talent and chess pieces they have...trying to create the perfect game plan.

I could see Urban trying to get JHall 20 touches a game, and Hyde 10 touches a game.. Would be a reasonable split. Having JHall, Hyde and rotating Boren in the backfield would be great. You're right on the mismatches. Both offer different advantages, which would be nice to see Urban/Herman use to hurt the B1G defenses when we get into conference play.

I'd look for Boren to lose some PT when Hyde comes back. I think we will see Hall and Hyde on the field together for a majority of the snaps. I think Hall will replace Philly Brown in the offense, with Philly playing wide more frequently. I think Stoneburner moves to the H-Back set a lot more.

I don't think this means Zach is just riding pine. He'll get a fair share of snaps. But within the next few games, I think we'll see a lot of Hall motioning into the backfield with Hyde taking the power runs, and Braxton running the option with Hall.

Stoneburner will benefit from the increased focus on the run game and provide a better pass catching option than Boren, who has held his own, but is a better fullback than receiver.

Hyde Expected Back

Smith?s role as the change-up to Jordan Hall might be short-lived. Hall is still returning to form from the foot injury he suffered over the summer, but the Buckeyes are also hoping to have Hyde back for their trip to Michigan State this week.

?I think we'll get Carlos Hyde back,? Meyer said after the UAB game.

?As you can see, we're trying to continue to grow our package of offense. And we're still in that process. But trying to grow is over. Now it's trying to perform.?
