RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

He's been going a bit unheralded by the media and fans talking this season. I, for one, think he's the next big back to carry the Buckeye banner. There will be others get carries but once he gets his chance, its on!

I like Hyde but to me he's always seemed to lack the vision like a Berry, Hall or Herron. I hope he proves me wrong but I would bet Berry/Hall see most the reps in the first few weeks

I see what you're saying, but Hyde's strength is running north/south, from what I've seen. I think he will develop like Boom, still mostly a straight line runner, but should develop subtle cuts that can gain a step on defenders. With Hyde's power, I'd rather see him pounding the ball and wearing down the defense. Whatever the split of carries will be, I think the RBs compliment each other very well. Lots of possibilities to keep fresh legs on the field and change gears with different style backs.

FWIW, I thought Hall was now considered a WR and KR, for the most part. I haven't been able to read up that much this year, but I swear I saw that mentioned on O-zone.

EDIT: After checking, it looks like Hall has been splitting reps with Berry at TB.

Well with Berry getting like 10 yards a carry in the carries that he did have I'd really HOPE that we go with Berry as an option more often than not. Having Hyde/Smith as change of pace backs would be the perfect complement. All of our backs offer something unique though if you think about it. Hall is all purpose, Berry is probably the quickest and can really get you with moves, Hyde can over power you, and Smith really can do a mixture of just about everything.

Hyperbole much? While his season stats were 32 carries for 266 yards (8.3 ypc), he got 67 yards on one carry, which was a TD run against about the worst run defense in the country (#118) in Eastern Michigan. Taking away that run gives him 31 carries for 199 yards (6.4 ypc) which, while solid, is light years away from 10 ypc.

According to my 2nd grade teacher, 6.4 still rounds up to 10.
