RB Bri'onte Dunn (dismissed from team)

They sought a SPARQ rating that would catch someone?s eye. Nike performance guide indicates a score above 77 ? tested in speed, power, vertical jump, agility ? puts a player in the top 10 percent.

They didn?t have to look far to find the best score.

GlenOak sophomore running back Brionte Dunn ? already on every major college?s recruiting radar ? put up the best score. After going from the power ball throw, to the 40-yard time to the cone drill and ending with the vertical jump, Dunn?s SPARQ rating was 114.72.

A perfect score is 120.

Dunn?s 114.72 is the best rating turned in at any of the previous five Nike combines, which included stops in Hawaii, Miami, Mobile, Ala., Houston and Pittsburgh.

?This is important, because there are a lot of good players here,? Dunn said. ?It?s competitive, and I?m a competitor. I like competition. All I wanted was to do my best.?

Once the folks running the combine realized who Dunn was, ESPN cameras rolled footage of him.

Only since the football season ended has Dunn seriously been involved in an offseason weight program. GlenOak head coach Scott Garcia jokes with Dunn about his ?baby fat.?

That baby fat threw up 1,290 pounds in GlenOak?s lift-a-thon last weekend.

?These combines are important, because it keeps them in a football mind-set,? Garcia said. ?It?s one thing to be in the weight room working out, but this gives them something to look forward to. It?s a competition. It?s something they can measure themselves against.?

Many players, including Dunn, were disappointed with 40-yard times. This combine timed players the same way the NFL times college players at its scouting combine. It?s done with digital timers.

These are legitimate times. Few 40-yard times at the NFL Combine are lower than 4.35. Most are in the 4.4 to 4.5 range.

Dunn ran a 4.59, and that?s equivalent to a 4.4 with a hand timer.

Bucknuts $ - Brionte Brings It
By Bill Kurelic, Posted Mar 07, 2010

Out of the 1000+ attendees, Dunn was one of the top performers with a SPARQ rating of 114.72... He's happy with the transfer to Glen Oak & thinks it's really helped his development... He's pleased with his test results but feels he can run a faster 40... Asked about schools of interest, he talks about OSU & his visit for the USC game... Prodded for more schools he mentions Pitt, UC, & MSU...

ALABAMA LOVES DUNN

Come Sept. 1, GlenOak running back Brionte Dunn will have all the college football scholarship offers he can handle. The junior is one of the highest-rated backs in the state and is opening eyes around the country.

Garcia took Dunn?s highlight DVD with him to Alabama and showed it to the recruiting coordinator.

?He took one look at it and said this one is going right to the boss,? Garcia said.

Dunn the "Gun" will look excellent in Sand G.

The total package, with that size and those kind of combine performances he will be on everybody's list.

Is it just me or is Ohio loaded a tailback next year? I hope we don't take a tailback this year and load up next year.

Probably won't take a back this year but if by load up you mean take one you might get your wish. Only about 13 ships for next years class and still 6 backs on scholarship.

Saine graduates this fall, Herron the next, both before Dunn arrives. Hall will have 1 year left.

That leaves Berry, Hyde, Smith, Griffin & Brown. Brown could play another position, and if Griffin isn't cut out for OSU he will likely transfer to a better fit (this is known going in).

I was counting Martin not Brown, though for some reason was including Herron. That still leaves 5-6 backs on scholarship with limited numbers. Could very well be the only one guy at RB in the class of '12 I think Dunn and Ball are probably the two guys most likely to be targeted.

The lack of overall scholarships will likely force them to take only one. Otherwise, I could see them targeting two since Berry might not be around for long with Dunn if he blows up, and Hyde, Griffin, Brown might not be feature back material.

What about Rushel Shell?

And I also agree about feature back material. Even with limited scholarships next year, I'd fully support taking both Shell and Dunn if possible and just skip the spot this year. We're Ohio State, a strong ground game is our calling card. Absolutely nothing against the guys who will be on our roster when the '12 class come on board, but bringing in two incredible talents like these guys should be part of the game plan.

With Saine gone, and Boom may very well get passed up his senior year. I think we need Brown at receiver, if Posey goes early as we will be losing a ton of receivers next year. I see Griffen either playing another position or leaving. Time will tell with Berry, but I think he stays after all. Hyde seems to be legit and Smith we will see this fall.

With the numbers we have next year for schollies it may be very tough to take 2, however there may be some early entries and transfers etc that free up space at the RB spot.
