Personally I think Saine should be the stater over Boom. A bit of a more complete player.

Saine back to old form

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State running back Brandon Saine turned a lot of heads early in his freshman season.
The Ohio high school record holder in the 100-meter dash came to Columbus from Piqua High School as one of the Buckeye state's top recruits in 2007, being named "Mr. Football" in Ohio after rushing for 1,895 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2006. He was a Parade All-American, ranked the No. 2 overall football prospect in the state.
In his first season wearing Scarlet and Gray, Saine did not disappoint.
Behind sophomore starting tailback Chris "Beanie" Wells, Saine seemed in line to provide Buckeyes' offensive coordinator Jim Bollman with a "change of pace" back that could hit the home run after Wells, the 6-foot-2, 245-pound power back, wore the defense down with his physical running style. He got out of the gate quickly, rushing for 153 yards and scoring three touchdowns in his first three games, but felt discomfort in his knee following Ohio State's third game of the season against Washington, then went to get the knee examined when, the Tuesday following the game against the Huskies, it flared up again.
He ended up getting his knee cleaned out, going through arthroscopic surgery and missing three weeks. When he came back he was not the same running back, gaining just 114 rushing yards the rest of the season. His sophomore season was even worse. Slowed by a number of persistent, nagging injuries, Saine rushed for just 65 yards in 12 games last year.
This season, however, it looks like the old Saine is back. After a strong spring he had a close competition with sophomore Daniel "Boom" Herron for the starting job. Herron started Ohio State's 31-27 season-opening win against Navy, but Herron and Saine both saw significant minutes. Herron rushed for 72 yards on 17 carries (a 4.2 yard per carry average) while Saine carried the ball nine times for 53 yards (5.9 ypc). He also went 49 yards with the opening kickoff, after a reverse handoff from Lamaar Thomas, to set the Buckeyes up in Navy territory.
Saine's effort against Navy was a good sign for him as a player looking to come back from injury, and a welcome sight for Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel.
"I thought B. Saine had a good spring and was healthy during the preseason," Tressel said. "He did some good things out there, started the game with a bang, that reverse in the kickoff. Brandon Saine is going to get better and better."
Saine?s return boosts OSU?s running game

COLUMBUS ? A whole two seconds elapsed in Ohio State?s 2009 season before Brandon Saine emerged from the ?Where are they now?? file.
On the opening kickoff Saturday against Navy, Lamaar Thomas caught the ball at the 2-yard line, took a few steps upfield and then handed to Saine, who was swooping in on a reverse.
The junior running back got a block from Ryan Schuck at the 15, then shifted into a higher gear and sprinted up the sideline, getting shoved out of bounds at the Navy 49.
The play jump-started the Buckeyes, who scored on the drive to take a lead on their way to a 31-27 win. And on a personal level, it kick-started Saine, whose once-promising career was sagging after an injury-riddled 2008 season.
?Definitely, you get the jitters out right away,? Saine said of the return. ?My heart was pounding before that, and after that play, I was ready to go the rest of the game.?
He proved it, splitting time with Daniel Herron and finishing with nine carries for 53 yards and two catches for 21 yards.

Boom gets the primary running duty, and then Saine as the fastest TB (or player on our offense) gets a few passes. I know it sounds like armchair quaterbacking, but why wouldn't you spread the ball around a bit more. Saine has more power when he runs and based on what we saw last week, his running game has improved dramatically. I have nothing against Boom, but running the same play off guard netted a few yards at best. Saine would have done better in certain situations. Oh well, don't look back and focus on winning out this season. Toledo is next - Opelt and the Rockets - look out for Eric Page!
